Employees should not have the right to give themselves raises and that’s exactly what they are employees they’re elected to their positions where the notion that they should be able to give themselves raises whenever they see fit is beyond me whether they do a good job or a bad job it still should not be up to them to decide their wage
It started out they were to have
a Stipend. They were not to live
above the people they were representing.
It is horrible how they are fleecing the American people.
Congressional pay should be the average of the US median income and their representatives median income.
I think I handle this better here:
Any raise for congress should be on the ballot…
They can’t do their jobs so they need to go back 20 yrs and give them that pay.
If they wish to have a raise, it should be decided by their constituents. A detailed analysis showing the reason and necessity should be provided including spending. If corruption exists, then there must be a reason for it. In my opinion, if corruption exists, it’s because not only is the position overpaid, there are loopholes that allow for greed.
I propose cost of living pay raises for members of Congress and the Senate, the same as Social Security. I also suggest term limits, the same health insurance as regular Americans, and once they time out of their term limit from their position or are voted out, their pay stops. No matching salary and healthcare or other benefits for life.
