Salary increases house/senate

Those who work for us should not be able to determine if they should give themselves a raise. There should be a group of citizens not in government making that decision based on whether or not our senators and representatives deserve a pay raise. It should be based on whether or not they have done what the citizens have requested of them, not serving their own needs. We should decide if they get a pay increase or not based on their merit, which is the way it should be!

I agree that an outside party needs to determine if they get any type of raise. They technically work for us so it should be us that decides that. However, in my humble opinion they deserve nothing. Their base income is a minimum of three times the average salary of the everyday citizen and then when you add in all their fringe benefits (travel, health, staffing assistance, retirement and such) it very quickly jumps up to five times or more.

Congress should not get paid if they cannot do their fundamental job and pass a balanced budget. Further any person in congress should not be allowed to run for another term if the budget is not passed on time and balanced.

I’m not going to re-hash it here, but look at the proposal I made in another thread, I think it sums up a strong solution:

Make Congress salaries expenses and per diem again.

The pay and benefits for any Senator or Representative should be based on the average income of the taxpayers in their state or region.
