Limit Congress's pay and pay raises

Members of Congress should not be allowed to vote to raise their own paychecks, especially while US citizens suffer from their bad economic policies. Additionally, members of Congress should either work civilian jobs thereby forcing more efficient use of time in DC (as our first congress did), or have their pay limited to their sending state average income. This would ensure that those going to serve in Congress would not be going to merely get wealthy, but would be going because they actually care for the people and are passionate about the job. After all, they are called public servants.

Politicians could be put on a pay scale similar to teachers. If they choose to make this a lifeline career (like teachers do), then they should start at the bottom of the pay scale and as they grow in tenure and education, then they can get paid more.
