Term limits for Senators and Representatives

There should be a limit and all the senators or anyone holding a seat and older then the limit currently will be grandfathered in but any one below age requirement will be termination letters at current position upon reaching that date.

The odds of mental decline is higher with each advancing yr. Not everyone but majority of people experience decline.

This is absolutely a must. Iā€™ve been hoping for this for years.

I agree we have term limits on everthing else. This is a must to clean house and get rid of corruption.

They should not be able to purchase stocks with insider knowledge. Tell me how AOC is worth 4 million already? And Nancy pelosi- she is the biggest culprit.

I agree, term limits need to happen. However, congress will never vote themselves out. The only way we will get this passed is to make it for new Senators and Representatives. The old ones will have to be grandfathered in. Weā€™ll just have to wait for them to die.

I think nobody should stay in office more than 12 years. I donā€™t care if we have to change some length (senator), but Iā€™ll be fine with that.
Should we also include age limit?

Agree. But 18 years max for any rep. Three 6 yr terms for Senators- four 4 yr terms for house reps.

Iā€™d like to add that anyone in the office cannot invest in the stock market. Thatā€™s basically insider trading, they canā€™t have their own version of Social Security & they cannot give themselves raises without the people of their state voting on it.

Maybe implement a 10 year lifetime total political term limit. Meaning they canā€™t be in any political office after theyā€™ve served their 10 years. (Ex Once a term like house speaker ends lets say, 2 years, they can run for another office as long as itā€™s under the 10 year life time limit. Like, if they only have 3 years left of their 10 year limit, then it automatically dqs them for the presidential and vice presidential office or other offices that require longer terms.

And a maximum 3 years per office (excluding presidential office) this way, younger/more in tune with what the people want politicians can enter with fresh ideas. Right now, for the most part, a single generation is holding everyone hostage because they refuse to retire. I think something along this would be critical to keeping it fair for everyone.

Times change, and the meaning of things change. Technology is always advancing, and we need younger people in to keep the balance.

Keep in mind
America was founded with both repub and dems. And when they are balanced they make the USA strong. Our country wonā€™t work with just one party.

And the fines for insider trading that would cripple normal everyday citizens wont have the same effect on them. They pretty much think of it as a tax and carry on. Itā€™s repulsive!

I would also add that once a representative or senator is finished with their term, they are NOT allowed to consult with any new members of Congress or the senate, or work for a lobbyist group for a minimum of their previously served term. So if they serve 10 years, they have to wait 10 years before being eligible to work for a lobbyist firm.

And they must be on the same social security as the average American when they retire! No special treatment!

Term limits have been needed for too long.

I have been wanting to advocate for term limits for Senate & the House. I was thinking 12 years max for each- if someone wanted to be engaged in politics they can go from house to senate and maybe even run for presidency. Every other job we train replacements except politics. Itā€™s time to get our government cleaned up of these 40-50 year politicians

I would rather have a limit of two terms, 8 years Max like the President.

I think this has been at the top of everyones want list for a very long time

Term limits- 3 years. Two terms max. Age limit of 72 years.
I donā€™t know if this could be inserted into system. No incentive for any of them to agree to this.

Mark Levin wrote a book called the Liberty Amendments. I agree that a six-year term is too long. The purpose of a six-year term is that each one elected will fall into another presidential term. Three years accomplishes the exact same thing, but requires getting it done. Fantastic idea.

The ā€˜deep stateā€™ isnā€™t congress, but they should have term limits anyways. It is the SES. Senior executive Services that cannot be fired, pass all of the rules/regs (not laws), although they have been curtailed this year with the supreme court ruling with the Chevron case.

Yes to get fresh ideas into office and not old people just passing through for years like Joe Biden did.
