Term limits for Senators and Representatives

Nothing will change with the deep state part of the government unless there are term limits for Senators and Represntetatives. Minimum two-terms, 10 years max. We cannot have career politicians, as it gives individuals too much power. Thank you for considering.

Yes, this will help mitigate people seeking office for power and monetary gain.

Senators currently have 6 year terms. This is too long. They do whatever for 5 years and then the last years they are “perfect”.

Their terms should be set at 3 years. This is still longer than Representatives but will hold Senators much more accountable.

I would like to see a maximum of 10 years for Congress and 12 years for the Senate. I also strongly support age limits

You do not need term limits all. what needs to happen is the 17th amendment needs to vanish. THAT is the PROBLEM not term limits. The amendment MAY NEVER HAVE BEEN Legally ratified but thrusted on the states like the 14th was. The 17TH is the PROBLEM.

Stating the obvious here… the Executive Branch doesn’t have the means to place congressional term limits. Congress would have to vote that in or there would have to be a constitutional convention to ratify a new amendment. The only thing the President could do is propose and lobby for it.

This will likely not get through as-is, since the people voting for it are naturally selected out already. What’s more, it will likely get repealed by the next group that comes in. I suggest having it be A) A constitutional amendment, and B) not take effect until 10-20 years from when it is ratified. That way the current crop of politicians won’t have incentives against it, and it will still get put into action in the future, AND it will be incredibly difficult for politicians to remove!

Term limits should be limited to 3 terms for Representatives which would amount to a total of 6 years. Term limits for Senators of two terms of 3 years each which would be a total of 6 years. For those wishing to serve longer can move from the House to the Senate or vice versa if elected by the American Voters. That would result in a total of 12 years in one of the legislative houses. Not long enough to retire at 20 years, but there is always the possibility of running for President for two terms totaling 8 years and qualifying for a retirement just like the military members have to do to collect a retirement. Retirement just because they served in the legislature for less than 20 years will not continue.

That would improve the issue for Senators but Representatives should have term limits.

The representatives could serve for 3 terms of two years in my proposal.

Sometimes I think there should also be a ‘term limit’ for the unelected bureaucrats. They can be more dangerous than the elected officials. Not sure how it could be done - just a thought.

10 years is way too much. Maximum 4 years. 10 years will give them time to establish ties and wander down the path of corruption and personal monetary enrichment.

I respectfully disagree with age limits. One person at 85 can be more cognitively sharp than another person at 60. It depends on a person’s personal health, and not their age itself, and I believe would be unfair discrimination. I would, however, be in support of all elected officials having to pass a yearly cognitive exam.

Honestly, term limits is the quickest, easiest and most proficient way to balance the budget. If you have ever looked at the pork in a lot of the bills that get passed, there are things that are given to more senior congressional members districts just because they’re senior members. Then, they are kept there, budget after budget, and get raised every year due to inflation. Money to study video games. Money for studying random animals mating habits. Grants for huge colleges like Harvard which has billions in endowments in the bank. Balancing the budget faster would require cutting this fat that never gets touched because of seniority. How do life long congressional members have net worths of millions making $150k per year? It’s not from being perfect on the stock market.

The problem isn’t too much power. Individual members of congress don’t have that much power. Term limits will not help the situation we’re in. They can put empty suits in positions of power until the world ends.

It is this kind of policy that actually decreases government accountability an increases corruption. With term limits, members of congress would be incentivized to get as much out of their position as possible before they can’t run again. That is a net negative.

Term limits are a must! I believe EVERY American Citizen would be on board with this. The only problem I see is getting it passed. We’re trying to get this done now and the only way is through a convention of states (constitutional convention). Please google it and you can sign up there. I believe it takes 36 states to call a convention of states and we are getting extremely close. We all know that congress is not going to place a term limit on themselves. There may be a few that have mentioned it such as representative Matt G. Of Florida but I’m not even sure he would vote for it if it made it to the floor. This MUST HAPPEN!

12 years combined total elected federal office max. 6 terms in house or 2 terms in the senate. POTUS stays at 2 terms max. But because the limit is combined years. If you serve a full term as a senator (6) you could only serve on term as POTUS as a second term for but the office holder over 12 years.
