Congressional Term Limits

Term limits should be three two year terms for house members and two six year terms for senators. The longest you could be in congress is eighteen years. Once you are elected into office you are provided with a health care policy, a 401-k matching benefit, a liberal salary and operating expenses. Once you are no longer a member of congress all of those benefits are gone. That’s how it is in the private sector.

I’d make representatives limited to 6 terms and senators limited to 3 so they are able to pass and follow through longer term initiatives and I think you should be able to do both meaning 24 total years in congress if you are reelected 9 times

I would also be willing to want to make campaigns publicly funded and to ban lobbying, stock trading and earmarking bills as well as ban anyone who worked executively or legislatively in the federal government from ever working for a partner/subsidiary/beneficiary of the federal government.

In return we can 5x all salaries for people in those positions (presidents, congress people, generals, cabinet members and heads of all federal government agencies). This cuts down on waste, corruption and incentivizes not only congress but also the executive branch of government to keep the will of the people in mind when making decisions instead of worrying about money

We should also end gerrymandering if we are going to allow them to run as many times as mentioned, the easiest way to do this would be to increase senate seats to 3 per state and to increase representative seats to 1,500 members, this also lets jurisdictions get represented equally rather than suburbs being represented the same as the city it surrounds

Additionally I’d love to see ranked choice voting implemented for all federal elections, most importantly presidential but I’m willing to compromise with a different voting method besides FPTP. In reality we could just have states put up electoral votes proportionally to the votes casted by their constituents and it wouldn’t matter presidentially.

We also need to end all secret votes in congress, complete transparency needs to be present weather the vote is Partisan or not.

Require proof of citizenship in order to vote and make Election Day a federal holiday every 2 years.

Make ballot initiatives easier to initiate state wide (I’m not sure how the federal government could influence that) and allow Ballot initiatives federally with a 5 million U.S. citizen petition (can be done virtually)(must be a 1 issue bill).

If all of these were put into place we would see an end to corruption and the start of a new ultra representative government, by the people, for the people!

24 yrs is too long for anyone to be in Congress. Paying them 5x their current salary will not stop them for stealing from the tax payers. The idea was serve the people not themselves. If they can’t afford the job don’t run.
