These people shouldnt be prospering from their service to their country. They should go in for one term, do their time and get out. Essentially, putting their life on hold for a few years. This isnt meant to be fun and lucrative, its meant to be a sacrafice to represent the people of America. The government right not is simply not functioning like is should. Term limits on all governemnt positions is common sense!
I think this is very important in cleaning up the “swamp”. Fresh people with fresh ideas are a must for growth and progress.
Our country was not intended to send career politicians to the halls of Congress who take up residence there. It was intended that the common man would be selected, serve the people of his district, and go home.
This is a must. We’ve seen the same people in power for 40 plus yrs who’ve never done anything for our country.
I like term limits, definitely gets people out of using government for personal agendas. Should be set at 2 terms for senate, house should be 4, and governors should be brought down to 2 four year terms. Every person gets 8 years of SERVICE being the key word.
Please please term limits are a must as well as age limits or at least some type of test. No disrespect but when a leader starts glitching it’s time to go
I would like to see it worded to the effect of terms not years and flatly limit it to no more than 3 terms to ANY specific publicly elected position. This should be from the local level to the Presidency. I know that changes A LOT of things. But the idea remains that you either move up or move over and allow others to have a fair chance at making a difference.
Your wage should be the median income for the district in which you were elected to represent.
I agree with 10 year term limits, but along with that we need an age limit as well.
Ten years is way too long. They go in making a regular person’s salary with a little in the bank and come out millionaires. To much insider trading.
I agree. One refinement needed. Senate terms are 6 years each. So the maximum time in office would need to be 12 years to allow Senators 2 terms.
I suggest adding a clear limit on the total number of years an individual can hold
Federal elected office of 20 years. This would allow an individual to hold multiple offices without violating the term limit but not allow individuals to rotate between offices indefinitely.
I think it should be the following: Senators - 2 terms six years each, representatives 3 terms 4 years each. That way they are not fund raising the day they enter congress. Would reduce the money influence. But alternate the elections so you have people up for election every 2 years.
10 years would not allow for 2 terms in the Senate.
We need to have a two term limit for everyone who is elected to represent the people. Senators should only have a four year term. House Representatives are good at two year terms. No more empire building or dynasties.
I’d like to see a 2 term limit for both house and senate.
I agree, but think this is too long. It should be 2 term max of 4 years each. Same as the President.
I agree but I’d go a step farther and make congressman and senators should earn the median income of their state. They lose all benefits after their terms and are subject to ourselves laws. If “we the People” are the government then our representatives should be on our level not above.
I do agree with term limits and the 10 years sound great. I also think that our representatives be it congress or senate should only have the wages and perks of a normal individual out in the real working world. They should be paid no more than 70,000 per year, they should have to pay for their own insurance, they should not have retirement pay after leaving their post, etc, etc. That would keep them honest. We should have them meet in Washington Three times a year for two weeks, where they would stay in hotels, paid by per diem, they would then vote on the measures then, otherwise they would work from their offices in their local districts, truly working with and by the people they work for.
Congress has put term limits on every single political positions from mayors to the president. They will never put term limits on themselves. Somehow this has to get done.!
yes, term limits in both house and senate. this needs to be an ammendment. if this cannot be ratified through law then we must get this done through a convention of states.
