There shouldnt be full time retirement and gold star health benefits just because they one an election.
Yes! Yes! Repeal the 17th. The founders never wanted Senators to be in office for life. Great point.!
Id suggest some ideas here: A) this day moving forward, all elected representatives will have a salary no greater than the average income of their poorest district. B) not paid unless the fed balances the budget. C) not allowed to trade on the public market until they pass away. D) 2 senate terms of 6 years, and 4 house terms of 2 years. F) once they turn 65 they cannot run for office⌠this is abbreviatedm, i can post the detailed version if anyone would like
Agree.
And I believe there should be no retirement fund or pension fund for elected officials. This will further limit the monetary gain from public office.
And I believe their salary should be set at 101% of the amount their home district considers the poverty line or the national poverty line. The elected official should be made to feel the same pressures the people they represent feel.
And I believe they should not be able to accept $ from any entity while in elected position. Any entity that plans on offering a position âafter term is completeâ must submit that as a public request available to read by all Americans.
And if offered a position âafter term is completeâ that term should be immediately completed (ended, the politician should be effectively fired).
This should limit encouragement from outside entities.
How about set a limit on CONSECUTIVE terms for the House and Senate. That would allow an election without an incumbent.
Totally agree but I think in addition to term limits, there isnât any additional benefits after their terms are expired. Let go out and get a regular job like everyone else!
In addition, Politicians should not maintain salaries and benefits for life. Just like with any other job (except for our military), when your service ends so should your compensation.
Additionally, there is a âwaiting periodâ before any Senator or Representative can work as a lobbyist. There should also be a âwaiting periodâ before any Senator or Representative can be employed by, including contractual work, any company where the Senator or Representative voted on any legislation, regardless of vote, in any committee, subcommittee, etc, that had, will have, or potentially could have any effect, positive or negative, on that company. My suggestion is a minimum of 3 years. This includes, but is no limited to, if the Senator or Representative is an attorney they cannot represent a company or employee of that company that meets the above criteria.
This should have been done when they did it for the president.
Set it up so that current senators and house members are grandfatyered in, but the next member that gets voted in will have the term limits set forth. With in 10 years, (with the exception of a few) there will be limits on almost the entire Congress.
- Senators: Max 2 terms of 3 years each, total 6 years.
- House of Reps: Max 2 terms of 2 years each, total 4 years.
Federal government civil SERVANT jobs should not be career destinations, rather temporary civil SERVICE to oneâs country. - Once term limits are complete: No pensions or any other benefits of any sort, monetary or non-monetary. Social security is sufficient, just like the rest of the citizenry.
- Sources of income & investments (personal & business entity(ies) must be fully transparent & disclosed for annual audit; no insider trading (stocks, etc.) of congress member or any family or any common-law relationships or common living arrangements or business associates, all scrutinized during annual audit. If negative audit, immediate suspension from office pending 30-day arbitration panel, including 2 reps (selected by registered voters) from all political parties on the voting panel.
- Campaign donations from verified US citizens, individuals only, no businesses, maximum donation $5,000 per year. Unverified/unconfirmed donation sources or excess: Fund confiscated & used for injured US veteransâ living expenses funding & schooling up to Bachelorâs degree for children of military personnel killed in action.
I think their financial statements should also be shown to the public to see if theyâre on the take by corporations and foreign countries.
I like the term limits presented in this. That way PODUS will have some stability within the House and Senate. Although, it does provide some rng into the PODUSâs term with how the election will fall. Here is how it will look through 2043.
Year | Presidential Election | Senatorial & Representative Election |
---|---|---|
2028 | Yes | Yes |
2029 | No | No |
2030 | No | No |
2031 | No | Yes |
2032 | Yes | No |
2033 | No | No |
2034 | No | Yes |
2035 | No | No |
2036 | Yes | No |
2037 | No | Yes |
2038 | No | No |
2039 | No | No |
2040 | Yes | Yes |
2041 | No | No |
2042 | No | No |
2043 | No | Yes |
Just some thoughts.
I would suggest 12 years max. It makes the terms easier. 6 terms for House and 2 terms for Senate.
You need to make the term limits 8 or 12 so that they align with presidential elections because everybody turns out for presidential elections, and let all the current senators and reps know that Nov 2028 they are up for re-election.
Yes to term limits!
This is why our politicians are so corrupt, because they make politics as a career. Just look at Obama, Pelosi and other career politicians and look at their financial net worth. They have made millions of dollars that are in their financial portfolio. I am fearful that they have sold many of our countryâs ideas and resources, like our uranium and farm land.

We have needed term limits for years. Mitch M should have retired years ago. They just do not want to give up power.
We also need the politicians to only receive what the American people get-No lifetime benefits. They only receive whatever 401k they have earned and either purchase health insurance or Medicare. Maybe then they would work for us
I disagree. But I do think they should be force retired at a certain age.
