CPS as a whole needs to be investigated and cleaned up. Better protection for children is needed. There are children being left in homes where abuse is obvious and children being removed from homes unnecessarily. CPS is being used incorrectly by people on social media just because they do not like someone. It is being used as a weapon and form of retaliation rather than the betterment and protection of a child’s life.
First and foremost, the corruption usually starts with leadership. Sometimes, it extends to the elected officials in control of the budgets. Hence, weaponization.
Some social workers have the best intentions when it comes to the welfare of children. Their voices are usually suppressed when trying to protect the children and/or their parents. We are all human who need help every once in a while but not at the expense of being criminalized. Reunification should always be the number one goal hands down.
Some states are so overpopulated with children in care of the state. There is a lack of foster parents, so they load them up in a motel until they can find placement.
All social workers should be required to register in a centralized professional organization so ethics reviews could be more easily executed. Their conduct could be publicly tracked just like medical professional, lawyers and etc. Honestly, that really should be the case for all government employees but it needs to start somewhere.
I agree the system needs reevaluation. Unfortunately a lot of the neglect is due to the budget. Staff not getting enough training, nor supervision or support. Not enough staff in general to adequately fulfill job responsibilities in a meaningful way. Over worked and under paid.
I wholeheartedly agree that CPS needs to be torn down and rebuilt. I worked for them for 3 years and my goal was always reunification. I was shocked when my Director would say that she never wanted to return the children to their parents. I truly wanted to make a difference but felt like there were many who were there for the wrong reasons. The workers are so overworked with that leading to burnout. The system has to change.
I think that this is a fair claim. As a mother myself I have realized that there are a lot more kids around that need more help and support from the government, but still meet the standards. My sister works in CPS in the state or Oregon and she said that the standards are a bit high. Like you can hit your child to a certain extent and obviously matters where, but I think that is wrong. You shouldn’t hit your child at all. Like a light spank on the bottom to make a point that doesn’t make your kid cry or leaves a handprint should be fine, but if your kid flinches, has a handprint, begs you to stop, or even is crying should be a limit or a cause of investigation. This is purely just my opinion, but I agree with your reasoning.
Wholeheartedly agree. Child protective services are now a bunch of corrupt, Evil people.
Just look at the people that suffered in north carolina, and now people are coming around, trying to steal their children.
I agree
Train the police to truly identify and arrest the right person(s) in domestic abuse cases. The extended family and local churches should step up to provide for children whose parents are incarcerated or otherwise unable to care for their children. The government is not responsible for our children, the family and church family need to retake their intended role . We need to stop deferring our life responsibilities to hired government workers.
