Taxpayers should have the ability to select where an individual’s taxes are spent. This could be accomplished by a simple choice on your tax return and a few broad categories to start with like defense, infrastructure, social, justice, environment, pay down debt, etc. Perhaps at least 25% of your taxes would go to your selected area. Then the IRS and government would be held accountable for reporting to the citizens where everyone chose to spend the money and exactly how it was spent in accordance with the citizens directions.
Instead of that, shrink government, seriously reduce taxes and Federal Govt should only pay for what is constitutionally their job. Everything else, abolish.
Interstate commerce, military, … no social justice etc.
How about we go back to elected officials are part time (like two weeks a year) and get a small stipend to pay their expenses and maybe lost wages… they keep their real job and all the laws they make , they have to abide by in their private sector job!
Secondary benefit, Politicians now need to convince their voters to fund their pet projects, and said projects need to make reasonable progress or else the tax payers will divert their taxes elsewhere.
