Offer Tax Choice

Like Trumps idea to offer school choice to parents, our government should offer us the ability to choose where we want our taxes to go to. We would still pay the same in taxes, we would just get to choose which government programs get our funding. For example, this might help senior citizens see more benifit from their tax money if they could choose to send their tax money to programs that benefit them more rather than sending that tax money to a school distract that they may not have kids in. I believe tax choice could help eliminate the unnecessary funding of useless programs as people will recognize what programs have the most benefit to them. Our government should also be more transparent with us on where our taxes go to.

I like it, but with some changes.
50% of our taxes would go to certain causes that are a must to preserve our nation. Infrastructure, military/defense, veterans, homelessness, etc., whether we like it or not.

The other 50% would be up to you. Go nuts. Put your money where your mouth is.

I don’t care if the split is 60/40, 50/50, 70/30. Whatever seems right.

the issue with “50%” is that the dollar amount can grow. It is the same as the "fair share’ cliche used these days. So the mandatory areas need to be very narrowly defined. For example, if somebody is addicted to drugs and ends up in “homeless” category, we should not be on the hook to continually bail him out. Military, schools, police, veterans, roads, infrastructure - yes. But again, all very narrowly defined, so that nobody can slide DEI as part of “infrastructure”. All these mandatory categories should have dollar amounts. They get funded from overall collected tax pool first. The rest of federal and state taxes should be optional. If somebody feels compelled to pay for something, it is their choice. There should not be a tax rate for that, but rather optional contribution amount. Nothing should be required beyond few mandatory categories. Optional list can be extensive and include whatever people want.
