More of an Increase the social security we paid into all our lives and supply reasonable cost or free insurance .
A liveable wage on Social Security is an imperative as more and more corporations have eliminated pensions, and decades of downsizing has greatly reduced both opportunity and net worth for the living working generations. The value of the USD through inflation has shrunk to about .03, and the true unreported inflation caused by the last administration has put some seniors into an unexpected hopeless financial situation as they age. Social Security annual minor increases do not keep up with cost of living. In addition, stop reducing the principle of the Social Security fund by using these retirement funds for government operations and giving enhanced benefits to illegal invaders in our country. Stop the corporation from chatteling and trading our SS numbers (we ate not property) and pay every citizen alive over age 40 restitution for years and decades of abuse within the system.
I expect the DOGE to totally reengineer the Social Security System and fund to provide true security, protection, and fairness to our current and future senior population!
Allow us to see Naturopaths, if we so choose, covered under Medicare.
Pay for hearing aides, false teeth/dentists, eye glasses (or at least a discount for them) The things most seniors should have but do without because of cost/lack of coverage, or having to pay extra for a supplement to cover these.
“I expect the DOGE to totally reengineer the Social Security System and fund to provide true security, protection, and fairness to our current and future senior population!”
Lord be willin’! I am thinking along your very same lines.
Medicare does not pay providers cost. In other words it is less than cost. It doesn’t even pay for the electric. Naturopathic Doctors and Functional Medicine Chiropractic Physicians also called Internal Medicine Chiropractic Physicians are not going to be able to accept Medicare as a payment. If you want to see that type of provider it is cash based.
People have become too dependent on insurance to pay for everything.
You would need a secondary coverage to pay for Integrative care. Even Integrative Care for Cancer is cash because private insurance will not pay for it.
People need to save their money for healthcare just like for fixing a car, going on vacation, buying appliances etc.
I understand it is a different situation for individuals on Medicare but it will likely never cover that type of provider for anything other than what it covers any other provider. Therefore, it would make it ineffective if someone is not going to pay cash for the additional services not covered by Medicare.
Also consider the following which has some policies connected regarding social security:
A three percent increase, then deduct medical extension expenses. All Medicare procedures should be covered…ALL MEDICARE medical expenses
I’m for the privatization of Social Security. It wouldn’t be that hard to do. For everyone living on social security age 60+ remain on social security with the provision of it being tax free and they need a better cost of living update. People age 30 to 60 would be given all of their accumulated amount back in a lump sum that would have to be immediately deposited into the 401k or IRA of their choice and future SS taxes would then be deposited into that account, no longer to the treasury. Finally young people just entering the work force would be required to open a 401k or IRA to then make their ss deposits into it until they reach retirement age. Investment companies can be directed to manage these accounts with a legal provision that nothing fraudulent occur without very severe consequences including fines imposed and or punitive damages to be paid directly to the individual or individuals affected. So the same taxes that you pay towards SS would instead be automatically deposited into your 401k or IRA. SS run by the government is a scam. the return on investment is maybe 4% . even if it is privatized the potential return would be much larger. Best part, the government no longer has their pile of money to steal from. Once the current 60+ age group expires then fund can be greatly reduced to only include special needs and disabled americans.
I would go so far as to recommend that the annual Social Security increases match exactly the rate of inflation/cost of living. This would (hopefully) put pressure on the government to rein in the out-of-control cost of goods and services (while the CEOs of companies receive unrealistic salaries and boast about their record profits). There is no logical reason why individuals who lived a middle-income life while working are forced into low-income in retirement.
I agree. Annual increases should not be lower than the rate of inflation. That is how perfectly responsible and liquid seniors get driven into poverty if they live a longer life. My father had a really good retirement but lived to 92 and by that time inflation over 30 years totally eroded his standard of living … that was wrong and unfair.
The other needed intervention is to end the Federal Reserve, which is neither Federal nor a Reserve, and back the USD with sound money, tangible assets like gold, silver, oil and other assets.
Something must be done to save we the people from “the system” which is based on debt and known corruption. Now is the chance with this next administration to return the US to “the Golden Age”.
Yes! And don’t forget the chiropractors, massage therapists, and functional medicine doctors.
Hi Megan.
Thank you for your interesting comments! Unfortunately, everytime I hear those words, “liveable wage”, I have to roll my eyes. What is a “liveable wage”?
Liveable for some people is a roof over their head, food and at least minimal to moderate health care. Liveable to others is paid rent, free utilities, free drives to the doctor, cash for food purchases and OTC drugs, cable TV, a free government phone, manicures and more.
Also a liveable wage in rural Idaho (Republican state) is vastly different from a liveable wage in a little row house in Newark (Democrat state). Even worse, a liveable wage in Haley ID and a liveable wage in adjoining Sun Valley ID, literally a 15 minute drive away, are vastly different. How could our government account for all those variances?
I have friends who threw away their youth on drugs and crime. These are people who have never worked except for short stints in fast food and cash jobs. Now these friends are far better off than me. I paid my way through college with a small scholarship, work study, jobs in the summer and a small loan which I paid back. Not only is treating those who never paid in better than those who’ve paid in for 50 years as I have not fair, its government theft because my taxes are going to try to make things “fair”. Too many think of “fair” as equal outcome regardless of what is put in. This disincents productivity. It’s what led to creation of the failed Soviet Union. It also led to the greatest starvation in history, 30 to 45 million lives lost, under Mao. Lastly, it’s what led to the bloodiest and ugliest revolution in history, the French Revolution.
Whatever happened to the concept of family helping family? My siblings and I are prepared to sacrifically help my parents when they run out of money which, in a retirement home, teetering on needing full nursing care, they will.
Lastly, “liveable wage” is why we have $12-$14 fast food burgers. People like me, on salary but forced to work past retirement even with disabling health conditions so I can SOME DAY retire, have gotten no increases. This is what I have to do. Life is hard and those who can, have to save and work hard. That is everyone’s responsibility. If you don’t, you should have consequences, else why work?
I know Social Security has been wrecked by giving benefits to kids if they are ADHD, illegals, SSI payments to those who never paid in, higher SSI payments for recipients lifetimes even if they work and they steadily increase the amount they can work. I am literally disabled but would never apply for SSI. The ethics my parents instilled require that I work hard and only accept government benefits for the least amount possible and then only as a last resort.
The bottomline is that, fair or unfair, we are all at a place where the government took away a lot of our money paid into Social Security to use for other things. They broke the promises made to get Social Security in place. That’s why its projected to go bankrupt in 2033. I think any idea to increase Social Security benefits will have to come after other changes by the Trump administration. Then they shoukd focus on restoring those promises. It may not get done in my lifetime but I can deal with that. Good government can only be achieved when the majority of us resist thinking of issues from our own personal benefit instead of what’s ethical, just and achievable.

“…and pay every citizen alive over age 40 restitution for years and decades of abuse within the system.”
I would settle for that in a heart-beat --just give me back all of what you guys stole from me without my consent.
I have read many posts in here regarding Social Security, and it appears as though the vast majority are basing their posts on the incredible idea that their government is actually telling them the truth about the program. It amazes me even now, how many people just follow along hook-line-and-sinker, believing in what they are told by politicians.
I see comments being thrown around that Social Security is funded through the next decade, for example. What do you think these people will do IF they suddenly found out that everything that they believed about Social Security was simply a lie? What if it was worse than a ponzi scheme? What if it was simply just a plain old scam – a swindle – or just an old-fashioned robbery? Would many of these posts in this forum matter anymore? For example…what if this was actually true?
I’m not saying it is so, or it is not…I am only saying.
Perhaps people need to start opening their minds to the real possibility that, what they currently believe, is merely fairy dust. Then the real discussion we might have to face is: How do we get the funds back into place; and how do we deal with the criminals who destroyed the program.
Anyway, I agree with you…I just want my money back, because I ALWAYS expect the worst from governments. I have always believed that the only thing left in that ole SS bank bag (like the Federal Reserve bank vaults) are a few bills, more moths, and a lot more dust. Time will (very soon) tell.
Let’s be more specific.
Gov has authority to borrow against but pays back with interest.
And to be even more specific, the govt interest paid back in depreciated dollars is worth far less than the stronger dollars (with former higher purchasing power) that it borrowed from the lender in the first place. So in an inflationary environment (the govt pushes for 3% forever), it is not really a gain at all, but most often, it constitutes a loss of wealth and purchasing power to the lender, and a net gain for the borrower (the govt), even with the illusory extra dollars in interest paid…but I digress.
If I am not mistaken, I believe the amount of Social security a person received is based of there time they put in working as well the about they made each year, I could be wrong but that’s the only thing I can see, why some people receive more then others, there is not flat bases line when starting on Social security income. So when you say increase, what is it you mean, the free insurance would be nice but they take money out of the benefits we received each month to pay for the insurance.
Not for borrowing. When has the government paid back with interest?
Dependence on insurance companies is not good. They are for profit businesses. Their primary stakeholder are investors. They take the premiums they receive and invest them in the stock market. That is who they cater to. In order, to increase investments and maximize profit they must deny claims. Please stop depending on insurance.
It is better to have your own HSA or IRA or savings to pay for your healthcare. In addition, be proactive about staying healthy by going to Alternative care providers who specialize in wellness care and going to a gym etc. Goverment also takes money out of Medicare to pay for the national debt. They don’t want to pay for healthcare.
Social Security is also given to illegal immigrants who are given certain status such as paroled etc.
Social Security is also used to provide disability benefits to citizens who can no longer work. It is used for other things.
There are caps on SS income for all citizens and how much they can receive if they continue to work also.
