School lunch quality

The American school lunches are horrendously, embarrassing, and incredibly unhealthy in comparison to the vast majority of other leading countries. Having raised three children in public school systems across three different states, I observe the need for federal involvement to provide a foundational health incentive for public schools to provide healthy school lunches. I am sure the current problem is regarding food shelf life and this, the majority of foods provided to children are infused with harmful chemical preservatives or are over-processed. There is not enough care, money and time put into the quality of food given to children. Food quality should be under FDA regulation to limit the amount of unnatural preservatives and food dyes. Public schools should have program investments going towards agricultural development on public community property to invest in farm to table food for our children. School classes can accommodate the labor through child education accounting for agricultural studies. It is absolutely imperative to not only provide a healthy foundation for the human body, but also the education on how to grow food. This simple life sustaining knowledge gears towards the betterment of all of humanity and our well-being. I I petition for the creation of a policy directing public school systems to incorporate farm to table foods into their lunch programs. A minimum amount of 60% of food must be harnessed from local farms. Schools shall receive incentive pay when reaching the 60% benchmark. They will have two years to attain the benchmark or lose funding. Make America healthy again!!!

In California school lunches are free, but despite the district telling parents how “healthy” they are, they are absolutely horrendous. Think chocolate milk, canned fruit, processed meat, tons of added sugar, seed oils, everything is ultra processed. There is also a ton of packaging and food waste. Unfortunately, since the lunches are free, parents who used to make their kids homemade lunches are no longer doing so, and now their kids are eating terrible food that is causing health problems and diabetes.
