Through federal and state laws already in place, it is illegal to not pay your employees for overtime after 40 hours in a week have been worked. Employers everywhere circumvent this by setting up “pay periods” that let them choose when that “week of 40 hours” ends while employees still work straight through, often way past and even double that with no extra compensation. I’m a federal contractor that works a minimum of 80 to 88 hours in a single run, yet because of this practice, I don’t get that overtime. I still spend just as much time away from family and miss important events in my child and nephews life because of this. I’ve worked every major holiday several times as well away from my family and ultimately it’s cost me my family. The least the companies could do is pay the American workers the just compensation. It makes many of us sick to know that CEO, supervisors and managers do what they want, never miss a holiday or event and are paid very well while the grunts are running their businesses and then screwed over on payday bc they very easily circumvent laws. There should be federal law enacted that states there will not be acceptions under any circumstance regardless of pay period. If you work more than 40 hours in a row, you should be paid overtime.
No OVERTIME should be taxed, put this money back into people’s pockets.
Make the federal government live within their means.
