America no longer has affordable health care, they only have devastation health insurance. If we have an accident or, God forbid, a major illness- we might meet the deductible. If not it pays the smallest fraction of the cost. Trying to stay healthy to avoid hospital stays or surgeries are unavoidable when we cannot afford to go to the doctor for well visits. The insurance companies ask us to pay ridiculous amounts each week, then proceed to play the deductible card. They want us to meet an unreachable deductible ever before they pay anything on a doctor visit. If we pay a large sum for insurance, then they should pay a large sum of our medical expenses. It is now cheaper to go into an office and declare self-pay, yet your insurance company still receives their money every week if you use it or not. I personally believe we should have no deductibles, and if we do not use our insurance- we should get a percent of it back or even have it placed into a health account to use when we do need it. It is not justifiable that they charge us what they want and we have no say. We have no option to not carry it. They continuously take our money and then pay nothing till you reach a 3-5000 per person deductible. Can something be done to help us? Why is the majority of our health care in the USA a ‘free for all’? It is truly sad. Why should we be made to carry insurance that we cannot afford to use?
I understand your frustration but insurance companies do not set premium rates. Premium rates are a function of YOUR spending and anticipated spending going forward. Claims are generally more than premium received. If not you get a refund. When is the last time that happened. Sometimes excess funds are used to offset premium increase and therefore you don’t see them directly but it would be in the annual report. Your premium dollars are spent on policyholders and claims play no part in insurer profitability. It can be fixed.
