To reduce costs locating illegals for removal

In the course of my conversation with a police officer on here
Local Law Enforcement Action about his frustration in being unable to do anything with illegals in custody, having to release them and ignore that they’re illegal, I was suggesting a grass roots movement of simply handing out business cards to fellow officers with the ICE contact details. That way whether local administration likes it or not in any given place, as private citizens once they’re off duty, they can give all the tips to ICE that they want.

No need to spend money trying to find people that the cops have located for you.

Easiest thing to do would be to simply change the policy and let the police hold illegals they find until ICE can come get them. Or even better let the police deliver them to ICE. They have people transport and proper holding facilities and illegals have committed a crime in coming here illegally so that sounds proper to me. That saves even more time, cost, and effort.

I think there are a bunch of good police officers out there who would be thrilled to help. In the course of their normal duties they’ve inadvertently done some of the legwork for ICE when illegals recommend themselves to police attention by committing further crimes.

Might speed up the process a bunch also.

If that gets blocked, if there’s some reason the police can’t turn people over, or report people directly, then back to the idea I was sharing with the police officer. I can’t see any way to block them giving tips to ICE once off duty. Promotion of the ICE hot line number to the police in some fashion and to the public at large would really help to take the burden of effort and cost of locating the illegals off of the government.

I had no clue it existed until that conversation spurred me to look for one on a whim so it seems under promoted to me.

You know, it might be tricky publicity wise to do this. If that’s an issue, one could just tell the idea to more police and ask them to pass the number around amongst themselves, doing grass roots as per the original suggestion.
