Give DACA and Dreamers a chance to citizenship/residency

Allow DACA recipients and Dreamers a chance to become residents or citizens. Many have been here there whole life. (20+ years)
If they contribute to the economy they should be allowed to stay.
-Clean criminal record
-has been in the work force for years

  • can provide for themselves or
  • Let a US citizen take responsibility for them and be their provider
  • Graduated High School (college isn’t for everyone)
  • Pay taxes

If they’ve earned it, I agree with them staying. Our immigration issue is with criminals and non-contributors. Not with honest, hard working people just trying to make a difference and a better life.

Some of the mistakes Reagan made was to permit a pathway in 1986 with the condition that Congress would fix immigration law. The pathway was granted but Congress reneged on witting new immigration law.
Today Trump can secure the border and deport all of Biden’s illegals without Congress. Trump should leverage DACA concerns for a true merit-based immigration law form Congress. The law comes first then negotiate DACA.

I agree. This is a difficult subject because I’m sure we all have friends that are here under that program. Even some naturalized citizens are worried, I’m sure. I’m torn because I have Mexican-American family that is genuinely scared that they are going to lose citizenship. However, I also don’t agree with the irresponsible way in which the Biden administration allowed all of these people in, vetted or not.

Does anyone know what happens to the parents of DACA recipients? Is there protection for them as well? Are they investigated/deported if they are still in the US? Are they just ignored? I’m curious and can’t find the answer.

Sounds good. so give all dreamers 2 years to have their citizenship settled. Do this now so Republicans fix the issue. Democrats have failed the dreamers for 20 years, wouldn’t it be good if these dreamers grew connected to the republicans who sorted this out. Any dreamers who have a criminal conviction will be deported. Any dreamer who has not presented themselves inside those two years lose their rights to citizenship and gets deported. Decision made by independent judges with fixed conditions to make their judgement against. no appeals. References in support from US citizens not NGO’s.

I have no problem with them staying as long as they haven’t committed any crimes. However, like the ones that did it the right way, they need to pay a fine and become citizens. This goes for their families as well.

I could agree to this. But we also need to overhaul the citizenship program. There is no reason people are here legally for 20 years and they still refuse them permanent residency or it gets put off year after year. Once they get their papers in line and have been without crime during their time here, they need to be given priority over all others. No appointments years down the line. Has to be done immediately.

The politicians have made this into a talking point for votes every four years. If they fixed the problem, which they could easily do, they wouldn’t have a job. I feel like these people are being used as pawns and it’s especially unfair to the children who were brought here when they were small. If you crossed the border over twenty years ago and have committed no crimes, pay a fine, become a citizen, and start acting like an American.
