As foreign ownership in US farmland, food processing facilities and distribution channels, the risk for food supply chain disruption increases. In 2022, Representative Mark Newhouse aptly isolated the issue to one foreign nation. However, any foreign entity potentially could use our food supply as a bargaining chip or worse. Let preemptively protect our food supply. Create legislation to fund and direct the Department of Commerce, Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Agricultural to evaluate ownership risks and prepare legislation to return these critical properties to US ownership.
