Foreign business’ should not be allowed controll over our food supply and it’s production within the US. Moreover, companies with vested foreign interests should not have control over our food supply and it’s production within the US. Food imports should continue to follow strict import regulations in regards to food safety and be subject to tariffs. US domestic food supply and production should be performed for the benefit of the American people. All existing agriculture lands owned by foreign companies or people who reside outside of the US for more than 2 months out of the year where the acreage is over 100 acres should have the sale of said lands forced or have their lands subject to seizure by the US gov if the property goes unsold for 3-6 months.
50-75% of seized lands should be divided into 10-1000 acre plots based on intended use and given in restitution to documented descendents of American slaves and American native peoples who intend to farm the land and continue to use the land for agricultural purposes. The remainder of the seized land should be auctioned off where the proceeds go towards grants for agricultural restitution to assist in farm startup costs.
I’m going to vote for it, but I think the first half of the 2nd paragraph should be reconsidered. I was on board up to the restitution part. Other than that great idea.
Uh, huge fan of the land auction money going to grants to starting farmers! I think any american who wants to start farming should be able to bid on the land they want with some sort of allowance. Where lets say if its their first time purchase that they get first dibs to a certain number of acres at a capped price if they live within a certain number of miles from it. (Does that make sense?)
As the older generation dies out, the kids of these farmers who’ve grown up and moved away, auction to the highest bidder so they each get the highest cut of money possible. Taking it away from the farmer who’s been renting and farming that ground for decades, working closely to that older generation. Instead of neighboring farmers each buying some plots at a reasonable price, expanding their existing fields, or it being offered to the man paying rent and learning everything there is to know about each field, it goes for a couple million to an out of town company who will send a crew. I desperately hope this next 4 years changes the way small time farming operates. It’s a subject people don’t know a ton about unless they grew up around it.
