Term limits for Senators and Representatives

Again, name me ONE constitutional amendment that benefited we the people.
We agree and rush to support without doing our due diligence—and are invariably sorry after the deed is done. Term limits SOUNDS like a “solution.” But that is all—a hollow “sound.” Take the money, the lobbies, the payoffs Out before you fall for term limits.

I agree. We cannot have career politicians, no lawyers, and no one with dual passports holding office in this country.

I disagree. If we remove all the perks and priviledges then the less qualified officials will seek to pursue elected office.

the original 13th amendment said “no titles of nobility” which means lawyers. during the civil war Lincoln changed the 13th without proper ratification from the states…we still have that 13th amendment. why dont you rely on the ballot box to be “term limits?”. that way you dont hamstring we the people. Dont you like to keep the good constitutional legislators? or would you rather force them out with term limits?

you mean we might get principled, ethical and honest reps—not concerned about themselves but about this beautiful country?

Please also consider, limiting the time and scope of work for assistants and aides working for any member of Congress. Staffers make decisions while the “lifers” are entertaining themselves with the taxpayers money. If you are elected…you do the work!

I agree with you.

If the president only gets two 4 year terms …senators and representatives should only be allowed the same.

Yes, new removal clauses for Congress. But it should be restricted to the constituents that said member of Congress Represents.

I also think that they should not be able to give themselves raises without the people approving them. If they can’t live off of $145,000 a year, then they need to budget. So many Americans live way below that every year.

@John_Mordecai Members of government are the servants of the People, and deserve NO benefits and privileges beyond their DUTY to their country.

And no pensions!!

so you are in favor of a possible dictator for president?

so demand repeal of the 17th amendment! every time we mess with the foiunders intentions we screw up!!! EVERY. TIME.

Age limits on Capitol Hill and The Presidency. Supreme Court is Lifetime.
67 seems to be a good age with these people running 6 year terms.

I have always believed in this. We do not need career politicians.

This is the second time I’ve heard this, and I don’t understand the stance. The 17th amendment opened the appointment of Senators to a General Election within each state rather than state legislative appointment?

How is this not good? I feels as though political parties are the issue there, Senators support their political affiliations rather than their constituents.

Not only term limits but pay as well. Politicians shouldn’t receive a paycheck for life and government paid insurance (better than we get) after they have served one term in office. What job in America continues to pay you for life after you’re gone or allows you to give yourself a raise? They need to be held accountable to do their job and balance the budget and be subject to a financial audit when they add millions of dollars to their net worth while in office.

I definitely agree we need to have term limits 10 years is fair! Politicians get too comfortable and get greedy.
