Preferred to abolish federal income tax, or at a minimum, lower the income tax rate!
With that in mind, where federal income tax is necessary to facilitate government actions, all legal tax payers should be granted the right to choose what their hard earned money is spent on. Too often do voters find themselves wondering where their money goes and if it supports something they are in favor of or if the government used their funds in a meaningful way.
Start with a specific percent to apply directly to military and defending our country that would be a non-negotiable standard (let’s say 25% as an example).
For the remaining 75%, allow each tax payer to designate which agency of government or which policy they would like to disperse their taxes on. If there are agencies and policies that I do not agree with, I don’t want to allocate my funds to those programs.
This would put into perspective what the tax payers are really interested in supporting as the policies with the highest dollar values applied are the policies that will receive the most amount of funding.
If the funding allotted exceeds the needs of the agenda, apply those additional funds to be equally distributed back to the tax payers that designated to that policy and allow them to designate to a different policy that has not met its funding needs.
If the tax payer is not in support of the additional policies, distribute their remaining taxes to military, social security or Medicare/Medicaid.
This would also require law makers to have well thought out policies each year to present by tax time for the upcoming year.
This would also require each government agency to be listed as an option to choose for funding creating more transparency on all of the individual government agencies and also can help with eliminating agencies due to lack of funding. If an agency does not wish to be eliminated, that agency should be required to campaign to the public the need to keep the agency open and garner support for tax funds to be designated to that particular area.
We should not have to support agencies in government that do not have a clearly defined purpose or value and if the agency can’t stand on the good work they have done for the American people, eliminate them.
For taxpayers that choose not to designate specific funds, have a standard breakout by percentage that will show where their money will be deployed in the absence of their choosing.
If the congress has the right to freely impose tax on whatever they want, the people should have the right to determine what their money is spent on.
