Many are struggling with the current rates of rent that have soared over the past 4 years, it is making it impossible to save for buying a home with all of the money going to rent. These private leasing companies, like Progress Residential, Tricon Reality, etc., have exploited families and individuals, and there are currently many lawsuits against them. Not only are price gauging, but they are not providing tenants with the basic needs without legal intervention. A rent cap based on location and local comps in the area would be the step in the right direction to help the younger generation be able to work towards homeownership in the future.
