Removal of Medicare penalty fee for late enrollment

Penalties need to be removed. Why is there even a penalty?!?

Below is the current setup:

If you don’t sign up for Medicare when you’re eligible, you may have to pay a higher monthly premium. The penalty amount depends on how long you delayed enrollment:

Part B: For each year you delay enrollment, you’ll pay an extra 10% penalty. For example, if you wait two years to sign up for Part B, you’ll pay a 20% penalty. You’ll pay this penalty for as long as you have Part B.

Part D: The penalty is based on how long you didn’t have creditable prescription drug coverage. It’s calculated by multiplying 1% of the national base beneficiary premium by the number of months you were eligible but didn’t enroll.

The penalty for not signing up for Obamacare was repealed years ago. But we seniors are left with the penalty on Medicare. It is not reasonable, and it is a denial of equal protection. Seniors are least able to afford such a horrendous penalty. I must pay for my own natural remedies PLUS Part B AND the penalty, AND supplemental insurance to pay the rest of my hospital bills. Altogether, that and the rest of necessary insurance is costing me half my monthly income. The cost just for my health is also about equal to half my monthly income.

I agree. The premium is high enough for someone whose monthly social security check is below poverty level. Please get rid of the unfair penalty.
