It is my understanding that if a person doesn’t enroll in medicare upon turning 65, that once they do enroll they are charged a penalty for each month past 65 that they waited. I have heard that this penalty is in the form of a permanent increase in premiums. Why? Seems like a person saves the system money by not using it. Personally my 90/10 @ work is better, & I am younger than my husband. Why be penalized for refusing lesser coverage for him as long as I work & pay for it? Makes no sense if true. I am hoping someone who knows more about medicare than me can contribute their knowledge here please.
