School lunches are important for the nourishment of so many children. However the standards need to be relaxed. We have so many rules and regulations in our National school lunch program. All foods served in a school cafeteria must be whole grain, very limited sodium and sugar. Nothing is fried, everything is baked. I understand these are “healthier” options but these restrictions are so demanding that some kids do not eat. A lot of kids bring their lunch from home filled with Oreos, chips, and candy bars. If we could just relax the standards some then more kids would eat a nutritious meal. There should be less government control over the types of food that is cooked in schools. While I agree that school lunch should be regulated for safety and nutrition, it has gotten out of hand. The Biden Harris administration also have implemented even more strict standards to be gradually phased in between now and 2027.
