There is no reason for a suppressor, also known as a firearm silencer or muffler be illegal to own, posses, or manufacture without a $200.00 tax stamp. It has been proven that suppressors when attached to a firearm, make said firearm any more dangerous, accurate or concealable than a firearm without a suppressor attached. It could be argued that suppressor can make shooting less dangerous by reducing the noise signature of a fire arm thus causing less damage to the ears of the shooter and any persons near by.
There is also an argument to be made of the removal “SBR’s” (Short Barreled Rifles) from the NFA of 1934. Historically speak, most firearm related deaths in the US are caused by pistols. Testing has also shown the SBR’s are less effective at longer ranges than rifles with barrel lengths of 16 inches or more.
