A lot of immigrants have came to this country harmless other than commuting a federal crime of crossing without documentation. Many have started families here and are hard working, keep to themselves. They keep this country up and running by doing the jobs no American wants to do. Why not form an easier way for those who contribute to the economy through their hard work in exchange for citizenship if they remain crime less for a certain amount of years. Immigration Lawyers rip immigrants off by charging them thousands of dollars making it almost impossible to get citizenship. This process is the same with an American who married an immigrant from another country. Money is the reason why most people give up trying to become legal.
A person breaks into your house and steals a lot of your valuables. They take those valuables and sells them, takes the money, starts a family and makes a “better life”. Many years later they are caught. Do they pay for their crime, or do we feel sorry for them and give them a better deal? The longer they are free, the lessor the punishment. That kind of promotes breaking the law and working to not get caught, right?
I can’t agree with the illegal crossings. Coming here to work is not a reason for asslym or refugee status. There are legal pathways to work. I allso do not agree with many aspects of birthright citizenship. That said there should be an orderly, well defined 10 yr. path to citizenship. 5 yr. temporary residency, 5 yr. permanent residency, qualifying citizenship if all qualifications are met. Satisfactory assimilation is a key factor imo.
