Present 'No Federal Taxes for DC Residents' As Counter to Calls for DC Statehood

The fundamental issues of giving Washington DC Statehood aside, the leading argument for giving Washington DC statehood is the claim of “Taxation without Representation”.

Therefore, I propose that the argument for DC Statehood be cut off at the knees by instead not imposing federal taxes on individuals who are exclusively and entirely residents of Washington DC. This would apply only to individuals who claim full and total residency in Washington DC alone.

This would either neuter the ‘taxation’ argument for Washington DC statehood, and/or expose the arguments for Washington DC statehood as nonsense.

Eliminating income tax and moving to a tariff derived revenue stream solves this.

However, I wonder if a legal case can be made that tariffs distribute a tax liability evenly so all recipients of goods are still being taxed? No precedent exists as of yet, but I wonder if that will be a viable legal strategy.

I’m unfamiliar with the requirements to bring new states into the union, but we should strengthen those requirements and make it as difficult as ratifying the constitution. That will ensure it won’t happen for political reasons alone.
