Nutritional Guidelines for EBT

Research has shown that those who receive SNAP benefits have a higher percentage of obesity than those who do not. Because the mission of the program is to provide “nutritious, practical, cost-effective diet”, I propose that all SNAP benefits be subject to the same nutritional guidelines as the WIC program. The US is currently funding the cause of obesity and its complications as well as the treatment via Medicaid and Medicare. This is outrageous. Why can items such as soda, candy, energy drinks, processed foods over fresh options, etc., be available to purchase in a program that is for nutritional benefit.

This has been my pet peeve for years!!! Stand in line at grocery behind someone using their food stamp/snap card to buy JUNK: oreos, chips, twinkies, etc. Then they use their cash to buy beer and cigarettes. These handouts should be for nutritional food only: meat, dairy, veggies. This money has become a gravy train (pun intended) for welfare recipients to pig out and become obese on others money. If they can’t supervise themselves, then we should restrict what they can buy.
