I agree, the news organizations have gotten away with telling falsehoods and half truths to manipulate people for way to long without being held accountable. I think if they are found out to be spewing lies they should be fined and have a strike placed against them (such as 3 strikes you are fired) for individual news casters. I believe that honesty in news should be required.
Absolutely. The fact that so many people have been freaking out and worried for their livelihood during this election because of propaganda and lies is INSANE. Some people have taken their own lives because of the lies spewed on the media
No propaganda but always make MSM liable.
Clinton removing the Telecommunications Act allowed for media monopolies. That allows billionaires to use their monopoly to push narratives beneficial to their self interest. In effect, those legacy media companies are a form of lobbying to control information flow and alternative narratives, ignore inconvenient facts, and generally manipulate society in their favor. We need to revitalize the trust busters – starting with monopolistic legacy and social media companies.
As for facts – unfortunately facts don’t matter to a lot of people. Driving a self-interested narrative is what matters to them. They’ll employ any form of logical fallacy necessary to drive that agenda. The so-called professional fact checkers are the worst. They don a facade of objectivity when in fact they are simply propaganda outlets for wealthy globalist interests just like the legacy media outlets.
This is already a topic, “ban smith mundt”
To ensure the integrity of the news industry, stringent measures should be enforced against any reporter or journalist who disseminates false, misleading, altered, or biased information. Implementing an honesty rating system, derived from public polls, could provide valuable insights into the accuracy of each individual’s reporting. This transparency would enable the public to gauge the trustworthiness of journalists on an individual basis. Moreover, holding journalists personally accountable for the information they disseminate would encourage them to carefully consider the accuracy and impartiality of their reports.
Probably more important is to require news to provide distinction clearly indicating the difference between NEWS (facts about what happened) and OPINION (the spin on why it happened or what it’s impact is). Editing footage and/or splicing together portions of an interview/statement/event can make things appear different than viewing the entire segment. Accountability for notifying the public that something has been edited .
Suggested policies need to be reasonably monitorable and enforceable. This is not. How do you propose to detect falsehoods, and who is the arbiter of that truth?
This only works if you hold the press (individuals and companies) liable.
Yes. No more propaganda. Opinions are fine but state it’s an opinion. And no more “they” say. Scientists say… Financial experts say… Economists say… Top or Leadering or Experts…say. No more of that BS.
Absolutely NO propaganda in the News. The press enjoys a Constitutional right. They don’t have the right to mislead the people with disinformation/misinformation. They have a responsibility to inform the people with the facts WITHOUT bias or personal opinion. They enjoy a great amount of power. They should utilize that power to inform the people of only the facts. Just as the people have 2nd amendment rights to defend themselves against tyranny, they do not have the right to murder. The same argument can be made for lying to the people. Report the truth. Do not murder it with lies.
EXACTLY! I dont want to hear the news broadcaster’s opinion. I want to hear facts and not snippets of what was said so we can form our own opinions based on truth! Why does the media get to misrepresent information?
Think he is already trying to do this from his statement the other day but this has to stop for sure! News used to present facts and not opinion propaganda.
Journalists need to report Facts not push opinions. Twisting truths or outright lying is not journalism. Present the facts as they are, let people make up their own minds. If they want to push opinions, they are not journalists. There needs to be accountability!!!
The government cannot and should not put any laws on the press they can rewrite the liable laws for defamation but passing legislation on the media is a real slippery slope remember they will be back in power one day and once you open that door you can’t close it.
Agree. We do not have news anymore. Not for a very long time. There should be a high level of accountability and adherence to simply factual news reports. No propaganda no hearsay etc. It has done immense damage to America. Licensing for journalists needs to be strict and upheld
It’s time to reverse HR 5736 of 2012 and put the Smith-Mundt Act back in force… Make American News Honest Again (MANHA)… then investigate EVERYONE who voted in favor of HR 5736 of 2012, follow the money!
Always maintain freedoms of speech. Don’t watch the liars. Who will decide what’s a lie or not? Education is key- truly the Bible provides wisdom to discern fact from fiction in many cases.
Having to Label your show as Entertainment (opinions) or Educational (Facts) just like we label movies as non fiction or fiction, documentary, fantasy, etc.
The problem with that is you have to designate who detemines what the “facts” are. You also run into 1st Amendment issues.
