There should be a clear indication as to whether a fact is a fact or not.

This should not be hard. Either it’s a thought, an opinion or it’s a fact.

In scientific publications, we have a result section and a discussion section. Fact or opinion.

In law they have hearsay, evidence, etc.

There is no need for professional fact checkers. A journalist knows the difference between a fact and an opinion.

We need a code of deontology for journalists.

A fact is very hard to nail down with the amount of different perspectives. Everyone sees things differently. Most of all there should be NO laws to control the media at all. What needs to be done is taking the money influence out of the media and/Or some how incentivize telling the truth. Those are different ways that won’t make our for fathers turn in their graves.

I’ve created a post that fits along the lines of this. I’m interested into hearing your thoughts.

Agree :100:. Reinstate the “Smith-Mundt Act of 1948”, which outlaws any spread of propaganda inside the United States. The very Act Obama repealed before he left Office.

Yes!! And save the opinions or bias for the “talk news” programs, if necessary. But for headlining nightly news, just keep it straight-forward and completely factual.

Perhaps the answer here is more simple and broad. Voluntarily and ethically motivated, journalism moves to the standard of evidence and citation of statements. As with professional and periodic journals, articles provide sources and information according to commonly accepted standards. Live reporting of events reference the articles and links to the same citations. Any reporting not provisioned with source and citation, whether stated or not is merely opinion and in a shift is to be naturally perceived as the opinion. Cited information is to be peer reviewed. AI tools can assist with efforts to provide citations and even perhaps a standardized scoring method to reflect veracity.

This is hard to enforce some things aren’t as clear if they’re factual or may be bordering on lines of “technically true”. The best approach would be to have news not be owned by one group primarily, how you do that is a better question.

I don’t know why the hell there isn’t a vote option but yes, everything they say must be fact checked before presented as truth. Nothing should be allowed to be taken out of context and and if it’s not gonna stop on there end we need a team of people (hundreds, maybe thousands) fighting the main stream media rigorously, ( an agency/new branch of government) making sure every last thing they say is fact checked, and that all there lies will be publicly broadcasted for millions to see, through a TikTok account, a website, app, and news network so that the American people will wake up and realize how much corruption there truly is!!!

It’s true, the news no longer has to be honest. They are providing biased information. NBC is left and fox is right. You can’t believe what’s being told. And they need to quote their sources at the end.

We need the media to get back to just the facts. And the view to be classified as a sci-fi show

I have a hard time with this proposal, only because of the way the facts can get skewed. (Look at what happen to covid.) I think more individuals just need to do more homework and not believe everything you see/hear, whether it is on the internet or not. Writing a law on this would be tricky, I’m not saying impossible. But there is a fine line against freedom of speech, and what someone else thinks is a lie.

They should have to present the whole truth in all things. The MSM lies by ommission a lot.

Perhaps if the media and politicians were no longer allowed to propagandize Americans. I believe a law was changed during Obama’s presidency that allows this. …I could be wrong on this though.

Dangerous path. Whose interpretation of truth?.The news need to only report facts and then allow people to make their own conclusions.
