It’s not just Democrats, it’s Republicans too. All sides do this to some degree.
My understanding is that he amended the Smith-Mundt act. Supposedly, according to “fact-checkers” it only applies to allowing propaganda for foreign audiences. I say America should stay pure and simply tell the truth instead of propagandizing any audience.
I think there should be a law that if they do not retract untruthful information, they can be sent to jail or fined high penalties, for lying to the people.
I agree… If they are giving an opinion, they should present it as such… They need to make sure everyone knows it’s an opinion and it’s not backed by facts
Smith-Mundt Act of 1948, banning the use of domestic propaganda, should be reinstated. Obama and congress modified it in 2012.
If information presented is knowingly false there should be penalties.
News organizations should present the story as it happened, letting people decide their opinion. If the presenter adds their opinions, they have to qualify the story by stating it upfront.
If a story was pushed for days that ends up false. The coverage of the correction should also get prime time acknowledgement. Individual reporters should be held accountable for false stories. On line reporters as well as on air personalities should be held to the same standards. If you are reporting news or opinions it should be clear to the consumer.
There can be standards in place that doesn’t effect the 1st amendment. If they have to state this is my opinion if they are adding it. They are still free to say what they want without deception of it be factual. If they report stories as they happen without their opinion, then people can make up their own mind. Clarification of the organizations intent doesn’t stiffel speech it clears up the confusion.
People are literally killing themselves because of the lies they have been fed. There has to be accountability for knowingly false stories if it isn’t presented as opinion.
While banning propaganda is walking a fine line with the first amendment, I think that media should not be able to be classified as news unless they are reporting verifiable facts. Furthermore, any purported news that contains editorializing, it should be stated that it is the opinion of the agency or host.
I agree with this idea. The FCC should establish a rating standard, like the movie industry, where each news organization is given a rating that must be branded on the screen during the broadcast.
One standard would define news broadcasts N1 thru N4. One would define opinion broadcasts O1 thru O3. The ratings should be evaluated often quarterly, semi annually. Possibly using AI to impartially evaluate the info integrity VS rating validity.
There needs to be way after each broadcast to view the facts and what was there opinion. Easy access by the viewer.
Facts have to be clear, easy to understand, not mis-represted an any way, and back by REAL findings. With clear detail timeline of what the news story is covering.
That way the viewer can verify everything and come to there own conclusion of the facts vs the news opinion.
The Democrat Media are being recognized and ignored.
News should be actual news, facts not opinions. If a reporter or news agency is doing a story it should not mislead, it should be just facts. If any kind of opinion is placed it should then be labeled an opinion and not news. Too many news shows are concidered news when they are actually opinion shows. Also make those that do report opinions as news if they are false or lies should be held accountable financle. I bet if you fime someone for reporting false information we will start getting better news
If topic of news has not been fully vetted for accuracy, based on information in full & related facts - news source should be fined if found to be inaccurate or false. Just give us all the non biased information.
We need to be careful about free speech, but the mainstream news channels get their air time access absolutely free at the cost of American taxpayers and should not be allowed to be a propaganda machine.
Isn’t the truth always the truth?
This is a horrible idea. How do I down-vote it? Life is complicated. Sometimes what a government official is sure is a lie turns out later to be true. They used to think our bodies were governed by humors and the people spouting this nonsense germ theory were liars spreading falsehoods. Good thing they kept spreading them or medicine would never have advanced.
I think every news story posted on the internet should be required to have an open no sign up required place for the public to comment.
… again. Thanks, Obama.
You should be required to show both sides of a story when ever possible like they had before Clinton changed it
I would add contextually accurate as well.
If they want a news media license, then report facts only. No opinion commentary at all. 100% compliance or they lose their news media license. This should be reviewed yearly. There should be a way to report opinion commentary.
