National Voter ID Law

NO “provisional” ballots. No live ballots lying around on vote day. No ballot without proper photo ID. Return later with proper ID to get ballot at that time. Period.

No drop boxes. In person voting. No more difficult than visiting a doctor or dentist. Return to more polling places for shorter lines and for citizen neighborhood hands-on transparency with same day paper ballot hand count of ballots and vote tallies. Located in the grade schools, which is within walking distance for most households. No temporary gloating live “provisional” ballots. Real ballot with real ID. No Zuckerberg dominion machines.

Yes

Brilliant idea!

My take on this topic, which includes the same as others in some cases and specific to federal elections only:

  1. Voter ID and proof of citizenship required. Those with reasonable explanations for why they do not have same should be counted as provisional.
  2. Mail in vote processes must result in all countable votes being in the possession of the voting precinct by the time the polls close on Election Day - this crap of votes continuing to roll in for days after Election Day has to end. Each state can set their own deadline as far as postmarks, etc. so that this outcome of all votes being on hand by the time polls close is obtained.
  3. A count of all cast ballots on hand at the time polls close and a recount of the same must match before poll workers leave for the day. Thousands of additional and before unknown ballots materializing two days after election day should cease to be a possibility.
  4. Each voter registration must include an affidavit stating whether they had been previously registered to vote and if so, where. Notification shall then be sent to previous precinct of record (whether in state or out of state) instructing that precinct to remove that voter from their roles.
  5. All recorded deaths must include a process where voter rolls are searched for that decedent and purged of their registration.
  6. Voter registrations shall expire and be purged from the voter rolls in five years from time of initial registration or last recorded time of casting a ballot, whichever is most recent.
  7. Any official USPS mail which is returned as undeliverable shall flag a voter’s registration as suspended until cured by the voter of record.
  8. Voter rolls in each state shall be run against a validation database which will identify addresses where residential property does not exist and or in excess of a specified number of registrants are claiming that same address. Flagged registrations are to be investigated and either cured or purged with cause.
  9. As some of these will require some rework of systems a reasonable timeline should be included for each state to accomplish the required tasks not unlike the “Real ID” initiative.

Elections Clause regarding federal elections:

“The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations.” and “…it is well settled that the Elections Clause grants Congress ‘the power to override state regulations’ by establishing uniform rules for federal elections, binding on the States.”

Therefore - ignore what state laws are and impose a standard way to vote for FEDERAL elections, So I agree - the state can do whatever they want for state and local elections, but federal elections have to conform to one standard.

Unfortunately, I don’t see any way around national Voter ID, since right now it’s too easy for people with homes in 2 or more states, or students at home and at school to vote > 1 time. With voter ID centrally checked that eliminates that fraud.

What would you guys think of this? It’s a little more in depth and covers more issues but I think it cures all of the issues we have with voting now

You cannot trust, state issued IDs, Colorado, for example, will give illegal aliens, a state issued ID, regardless of citizenship.

You’re exactly correct and it is extremely unfortunate. That many states allow illegal immigrants to have a state issued identification card/drivers license, and all of the benefits that go with it.

I appreciate you offering your experience with this from your country. We should absolutely be considering the effects of laws in other countries as a guide for our creation of laws in this country.

If we return to paper ballots there would absolutely need to be an electronic tally of some sort. Otherwise a package of ballots could simply be hidden or destroyed and nobody would know as we don’t see our name on a list confirming our vote after the fact. On a smaller scale if everyone in a population of 80 was forced to vote and only 50 votes were counted then you know something went wrong. Because we aren’t forced to vote there’s no confirmation on how many votes are meant to be counted. We would need some auxiliary method to count votes on another medium. That way if less votes are physically cast than the digital count says there should be we will know something happened. On the other hand if we get more physical votes than the digital count it will confirm that fake or multiple votes were cast.

In my hometown in Kansas, they use paper ballots that are of the “scantron” variety (kinda like those tests you took in school where you filled in the oval by your selection with a pencil, and a computer could scan the answer sheets and tally each answer). Those ballots were dropped in a locked drop box and then at the close of the election were transported back to the county election office to be scanned and tallied. It would be rather straightforward to have a tallying machine located at each voting site scanning the ballots before dropping them into the drop box.

Real simple, every voter that casts a ballot in person has to sign the “book” showing that they are there to vote. At the end of the day, a simple count of number of names that signed the book vs. the number of ballots cast (and since the ballot box should be locked with no precinct worker having the key, there shouldn’t be missing ballots). If the number does not match, there is a problem.

If a voter decides to walk out without casting their ballot, there should be a specifc place for those tainted ballots to be discarded (possibly a locked box similar to the ballot box, but has an ink roller that marks VOID across the ballot as its inserted to clearly indicate that it should not be counted. At the end of the day the discarded ballots might provide the correction if the ballots cast is less than the names in the “book”.

If the ballots cast exceed the names in the book, then there’s clearly questionable activities in play, and should face heightened scrutiny.

I’m not sure about using vote tokens. Some unscrupulous people would sell the token for money.

Perfect, yeah that sounds like a great solution!

Make voting for president US senate and house a Federal holiday every 4 years
every other 2 years for US house it’s not a holiday but all other rules apply
1 day only to vote
Government issue id to citizens only (free)
paper ballots only
no same day registration (there needs to be enough time to but your name on a voting list)
absentee ballots need a valid reason
all ballots need to be delivered by the day before election day
Have everyone re register to vote with the new id to have clean secure voter rolls
We waste so much money on useless programs, move some money around to pay for free ID’s, more voting locations (no one should have to wait hours to vote) New paper ballot counting machines.
All vote counting should be finished within 12 hours of polls closing.

What is the point of being a citizen if non-citizens have the same rights, especially the right to govern this country and choose its leaders? It’s insane that we don’t already have this!

agreed. almost like it would be better to leave and come back in illegally.

Free Government issued should be by federal office to avoide giving fake ID to illegals in some blue states.
ID Face ID advanced technology facial recognition required to vote.
Elections shall be fully auditable.
Elections shall be on paper ballots only.
Paper ballot should be counted by a bill counter like the bank count their money
The bill counter is not conected to internet just count the money
Let engineer a vote counter machine
If any district has votes in excess of the number of registered voters, all ballots shall be individually verified by representatives of all candidates on that ballot before it will be counted.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, my hometown uses paper ballots of the “scantron” variety, and have used them since the 1980’s (when I was eligible to vote for the first time, they were already in use) - the optical recognition technology it uses pre-dates the internet, and so a counting machine could easily be “air gapped” and produce a printed report (or save to a flash drive) with the final tallies.

Don’t need to-reinvent the wheel, when the technology already exists, we just need to mandate it be used.

I know the below picture is of “Ranked Choice Voting” but it is a clear example of a “scantron” style ballot, and how it’s filled out:

I recommend no ID no vote. Sorry. If one is a responsible adult by 18, able to buy alcohol, cigarettes, commit to long term relationships, enter into contracts, join the military and be trained to kill another human being, then they should have government photo ID upon voting. Surely those who advocate for this will NEVER allow anyone without a photo ID buying a gun, to bring home that gun, and complete the application later.
