Make Elected Representatives Represent the People

I believe that elected officials have forgotten how to properly and honestly represent the people they swear to serve and I believe this requires a three-fold solution.

  1. There should be a cap on election campaign spending with no exceptions and no corporate backing.
  2. All elected positions should have a term limit - federal, state and local - it has become very clear that when elected officials serve for long periods of times many lose interest in representing the people who elected them.
  3. I think that elected positions should only be paid the average salary of the constituents they represent as a means of keeping their interest and focus on the people who entrust them with the duties of service and representation. For example in the House if they are there to serve the people of an area where the average household income is $38,000 that should be their annual term income. In the Senate they cannot make more per year than the average household income for their state. No adjustments in their income would be allowed for inflation and any adjustment requests should go to a vote by their constituents.
