Homeless In America

I have grown up in CA since birth. My observation of what causes homelessness has evolved over the years. There are various reasons without a doubt, with each circumstance being unique on the surface & yet very similiar at its core. The core reason stems from some form of childhood/teen/young adult, abuse & or neglect! Knowing the complex nature of human beings, cooperation is not always a given. Cooperation would most likely lead to a more successful outcome for a homeless person but again, most likely, a flexible approach is needed due to how fragile the homeless are. My policy would be that each state buys a large piece of land, builds tiny dwellings for sleep, has community facilities ie bathrooms/showers, maintenance, library, thrift store, grocery store & other various resources that are able to be accessed by foot. A central building for staff that would need to be hired to aide the homeless in obtaining certain benefits depending on their level of need: health insurance, community college, behaviorial health assistance, rehab, trade school etc… There stay on this land would be based on one thing only. Their ability to work around communities for vouchers at the end of each day. The work would be centered around tasks that most average humans can do: graffiti removal, pick up trash, pick up road kill, clean sidewalks, plant trees & plants, low level security, help rebuild dying cities, help the lonely elderly who need assistance etc… The overall premise would be that for each day worked, a voucher is given for food, water, clothing & basic needs at the end of each work day. It would be mandatory that each homeless person has a mental health screening to assess their stability. Violent individuals would need to be housed elsewhere. Mentally challenged would need to be housed elsewhere. This is a rough draft but I am passionate about unstable individuals because I grew up in a very unique situation. My Mom was mentally ill & so was my brother. They were not placed in seperate care. I experienced first hand what they were capable of & what they were not capable of. Both my Mom & my brother would not ever hurt anyone physically. If they grew up on the streets, I feel it would have been a very different story. Unstable people cannot think long term. They are majority, only able to think about today! Almost like a child would think. There is potential in each individual but without a fair way to evaluate each person, their individual situation just gets worse & worse with each passing day. Our goal in America should be to rebuild our more vulnerable society & courageously move forward in setting an example for our youth to follow a path toward real solutions & not allowing the most vulnerable in society be swallowed up by a real lacking of care. Knowing that childhood trauma is the main cause of unstability, who is really at fault? Is it the homeless or the individual(s) that caused the trauma! We cannot have a society that is unbalanced. More & more youth are becoming disengaged in learning. This coupled with trauma creates more homeless youth. Lastly, this experiment & or long lasting program would create job opportunities due to this type of program needing workers. I believe other programs have not worked because of a lack of accountability, security, lumping all homeless together, a lacking of vetting employees well, a tight systematic approach, & lastly forcing behavioral health! I also think that community (a feeling of being needed, a purpose for living) for the homeless is needed. It may not be a perfect plan but I think it is worth considering. Numbing humans to not feel a thing for the less fortunate should not be normalized in a civil & loving society. That society will eventually crumble if ALL lives do not matter! Love IS the bedrock for all life. If we do not have love, we are doomed to create a self serving society without a real purpose for existance.
