A look at helping convicted Felons get out from under the big F and the discrimination it brings.
Not all Felonies are equal. And they should not be treated as such.
Felony charges cause people who might be trying to better themselves to:
- Missing job opportunities regardless of qualifications
- Makes starting a business extremely difficult
- Unable to rent vacation homes for family vacations
- Unable to set up accounts for services
- Unable to help or coach our childrens sports and activities
Step 1 - After all court ordered debts to society (jail time, fines, parole, probation) are satified there be a petition/opportunity to file for restoration of rights.
Step 2 - once rights have been restored, a set period of time or “good behavior period” (5 or 10 years after) should be completed where no crimes or convictions occur.
Step 3 - a petition that can be filed or offered to expunge the Felony or Felonies from the persons record permanently. This allows the individual to apply for the job they need the accounts they need etc.
This is necessary to have a normal life and not be punished for a lifetime over something done wrong one time.
I deal with this every day. While trying to raise my children and take care of my family i have been the recipient of all of these troubles. Even though it has been 12 years since my conviction with no charges and i have received my restoration of rights, as well as my restoration of gun rights. I also learned that even though i have received my 2nd ammendment rights back it only goes for the state i was convicted. I would have to apply in each and every state for my rights even though i was only charged in one state. This is a problem.
Also if a person accomplished all of the above and also received their 2nd ammendment rights back from the convicting court. Those rights should automatically be reinstated across all states. IF THE COURT CAN TAKE YOUR 2ND AMMENDMENT RIGHT FROM ALL 50 STATES THEN IT SHOULD BE GIVEN BACK IN THE SAME WAY.
