Its simple, if women get a say so should men.
When a woman becomes pregnant she has the choice to get an abortion, adoption, or keeping the child. The man for the most part has no choice. This should change. I propose a simple system that would benefit both men and women.
After the woman has decided to keep the child she should notify the man in some way that can be proven.
The man then has a choice to make. Whatever he decides he should notify the woman in a way that can also be proven.
If the man makes it known that he does not want a child nor the responsibility and the woman knowingly continues to have the child then he is free from all responsibility but also will have no rights to the child.
This is the summary of my proposal. There will undoubtedly be different situations that arise but they can all be accommodated. Such as:
• If the woman is unsure who is the father.
A DNA test will be done upon birth. Once the father is determined he gets to make his choice. The woman will know this before hand and if she chooses to keep the child then she will know the risk and should take that into account.
• Cryptic pregnancies.
Unexpectedly having a child would work the same as after birth decisions like previously.
The positives of this proposal would be in favor of everyone.
Women would know at the beginning if the man had intentions of staying or not.
The narrative of deadbeat dads and women having children just for child support and benefits would dissappear.
It would promote a nuclear family and hopefully fewer children would grow up in fatherless homes.
There would have to be details or requirements to prevent abuse of this system.
Such as men have to respond within 30 days or something similar. Without this, it could result in making women have the child and then him deciding he doesnt want the child.
This shouldnt be something that is monitored or a “list” .
This should be something that is a law and if issues arise the woman or man could present evidence to show they followed the requirements to not be held responsible.
