It’s time to put a stop to the harmful practice of appointing political appointees in smaller government agencies! These positions, meant to serve the public, too often become tools for political gamesmanship, causing chaos and disrupting the critical missions of agencies that serve our communities.
When new administrations appoint their allies to key roles in smaller agencies, we see:
Chaos and Instability: Frequent leadership changes disrupt agency operations, causing unnecessary delays and confusion. Agencies can’t fulfill their missions effectively when they are constantly dealing with turnover and shifting priorities based on political whims.
Mission Drift: Agencies tasked with serving the public good get derailed from their long-term goals, as politically motivated appointees often prioritize short-term, partisan objectives over the agency’s core mission.
Harm to Constituents: At the end of the day, it’s everyday people who suffer. When small agencies are thrown into disarray, vital services are interrupted, and the communities they serve are left hanging.
Increased Corruption and Crony Capitalism: Political appointees are more susceptible to bribery and cronyism, favoring personal connections and political donors over public interest. This breeds corruption and undermines trust in government.
Let’s stand up for agency independence and the long-term stability of our government agencies by banning political appointees in smaller agencies! These roles should be filled by qualified professionals based on merit, not political loyalty.
