For far too long most people in the US have been forced to buy electricity based on where their home or business is interconnected to the grid. We demand consumer choice! The justification for the electric monopolies has always been the capital cost to build out the grid and the transmission system, right? Now they tell us the grid is old and needs to be replaced? huh.
New electric providers could bring different pricing structures that may fit your home or business better than a single price. Real-time pricing anyone?
Why are we paying the same price for electricity all hours of the day? As it is now most people have no price incentive to wait until after the peak to plug their EV in or run their A/C. Meanwhile we are connecting a lot of intermittent generation resources to the grid in wind and solar; we providing no price transparency to the consumer. Dumb.
