Regulation on electric companies to cut down cost and abuse of power over power safety shut offs. Electric companies claim winds are the reason for power shut offs but here in California we will go days with no power with no wind and it appears to be targeted to specific areas. The monthly bills are high every month .
Most Electric Companies are already regulated by state appointed/elected public service commissions. One reason that you could be seeing higher bills is because of natural gas prices. Since the US is now a net importer of natural gas, the prices are higher. Those costs typically get passed on to the customer. That’s a reason why the US needs to ramp up natural gas exploration and production activities, so that supply can meet demand and allow prices to drop.
There is a better proposal-- Free energy, Telsa energy. That’s what is truely needed. Not regulations on something that is free.
These electric costs are astronomical.
We just had another major cost increase. AZ has 2 electric companies. APS and SRP. Residents do not get a choice between the two companies. They are assigned based on location of your home so there is no competition of pricing. When it is monopolized and costs near the price of the principal of mortgage, its an overreach.
We looked into the possibility of solar by obtaining multiple bids from solar companies. We learned we cannot be off grid in either rural or city limits. It is state law to be hooked up to a city grid. The cost to lease or purchase the solar panels, upgrade the fuse box to handle solar, and have enough battery storage for overight usage in 100+ degree summers, costs upwards of a small home (lowest bid was $80K on a 1500 square foot house). But! If you purchase, you get rebates or discounts from the electrical company. They are in it together. Plus, residents if purchasing solar after 2018 do not get payment back from the electrical company for pouring electricity back in the grid. That was outlawed in 2018.
Citizens currently have no recourse.
