Ban utility companies from price gouging their customers

I propose we make it illegal for utility companies to price gouge customers during natural and economic crisis. We all know when you’re suffering and not able to put food on the table for your family or to afford rent. It doesn’t make it easier when utility companies slap on super higher fees and interest rates. Imagine you live in a small town or city where there’s only one power company and no other competitor eventually that company will see that as an opportunity to set the fixed amount for how much power will be for that area. When stuff like that happens it doesn’t only affect people’s homes and businesses. It affects how things also function when utilities go up. Then the price of other things also go up as well. therefore the price of living in that area goes up. So people who lived in these areas for most of their lives now can’t afford to live there anymore.
