Covered treatment for obesity

Insurance companies must cover treatment for obesity medications at affordable costs, including Tirzepatide and other GLP1 medications. These medications have shown to have positive outcomes on weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, as well as other health conditions associated with obesity. These medications are priced outrageously even if insurance companies have coverage for them. These medications can be life saving and preventative for serious medical conditions that can be caused from obesity.

Is it an impossible task to start removing all of the junk trash NOT food that we consume? Our society has become so addicted to quick and convenient pre packed frozen meals that we just don’t know what we are consuming! It is hard to re program our mindset on good -vs- junk food and also convenience food, but it can be done. If you go back in time and just look at the size of people, even the 1970’s, BEFORE junk food took center stage, we didn’t really have an obesity problem like we do today. Quit consuming the trash, the obesity issues and all of its medical issues will begin to subside. From experience, I had my favorite salty cheesy snack chips, until I finally woke up and read the back of the package.

I began this journey back in November 2023. My doctor wanted to put me on a GLP-1 medication as I was pre diabetic, hypertensive, high blood pressure, PCOS and weighed 327 lbs. I had every test ran and was told while in a calorie deficit to eat less and work out more. That’s pretty hard to do at 300 + lbs. While traditional insurance would not cover the GLP-1 medications I was able to utilize a compounding pharmacy in Ohio. Over this year while my weight has decreased my dosage has gone up which subsequently has increased the price of the 4 weekly injections. My health has benefited exponentially from this medication and it should be cost effective for all Americans in need. 400-1600$ per month is not easily accessible for most with the costs of everything else. Let’s make this affordable across the board & remove the pharmaceutical and insurance red tape to allow everyday Americans access to this medication as needed.

I would like to second this policy. Obesity is a chronic disease and ironically one of the only diseases that the ACA allows to be discriminated against by allowing insurance companies to omit coverage for any and all medications strictly because of their diagnosis of obesity. Please help make the easiest change that will impact the life expectancy of so many so quickly.

Unfortunately, big pharma will lose once we begin to treat health conditions vs medically optimize them long enough to take more medications.

PLEASE HELP.
