Call a Convention of the States to Limit the Scope, Power and Jurisdiction of the Federal Government

I hope that all the concerned contributing will take the time to go to https://conventionofstates and sign the Petition.

For me, I appreciate your comments. I think you articulate a legitimate concern about the practicality of an Article V call and the reality of it occurring timely. Not that it isn’t a great idea and one likely needed, but if I am reading right, concern over an outcome from a COS that has never happened on this level, the potential issues associated with the internal dynamics, and several other issues.

We need answers; a COS will not happen overnight, and the questions and concerns you raise (and those of others who have articulated) should be addressed and incorporated into the discussion.

This may be the only legal way to rein in out of control spending, debt, and control.

This is a critical tool the founders gave us to reign in the federal government. Washington will never restrain itself appropriately. The people must use this tool in their states to propose amendments to put Washington back in its rightful authority!

I think the federal government has morphed into exactly what it has. Knowing how human nature works they put into the Constitution the opportunity for the states to call for a convention to address these insults to our liberties

‘We the People’ really have no other choice. An Article V Convention of the States must be called soon or we may lose our Republic for all time. Let’s not go the way of Athens, Rome, and countless other civilizations that lost their way to what we know today as ‘progressivism’. To be clear, America needs YOUR help to get this done. Contact your state legislators and insist they support an Article V Application for the COS resolution calling for 1) Term Limits on federal officials as well as Congress, 2) Fiscal Restraints on the federal gov’t, and 3) Limited jurisdiction of the federal government.

I am putting together a list of CoS operations list. Look up my posts and you should find it

Washington will never fix itself. The Constitution gives us a legal, peaceful means to bring change to Washington to curb its power and increase our liberty, We need a Convention of States!

I agree. I would like to suggest an updated Naturalization Act be added to the Convention agenda.

As we see in real-time, foreign nationals are being brought in and fast-tracked into becoming citizens to overload a presidential election cycle.

We should require that ALL foreign nationals seeking to become American citizens;

  1. Apply and be accepted as a temporary Resident and maintain good standings for a minimum of 5 years,
  2. Take the civil exam and pass,
  3. Expatriate fully from their country of origin,
  4. Affirm by oath to assimilate to the American society and civil laws thereof,
  5. Acknowledge that they and any children foreign born are not eligible for positions in any government administrations.

We need an amending convention, that provided by Article V of the USConstitution. Even if we elect a president who upholds the Constitution as written, we need to reign in the federal government by ratifying amendments. (We’ve had at least 2 Constitutional presidents in the last 80 years, yet we still have a runaway federal government.) Even without getting amendments passed out of a Convention, we would have at least created an opportunity for discussion.

This is not a constitutional convention. I would suggest that you look at Conventionofstatesaction.com Tap resources then minutes of convention and proposed amendments. he amendments’ looked at the Commerce Clause, general welfare definition, enumerated powers and navigable waters definition

Lewis,
I may be able to help, What are some of the questions you are looking for answers to?
Andrew

Term limits - for elected and appointed federal officials
Fiscal restraints - how, when, and where Congress can spend and collect money
Limited scope and jurisdiction - get D.C. out of the State’s business and back in its constitutional box

Clear and actionable!

Thank you. I wasn’t looking for answers (not that I have the answers); my comments were to raise discussion on the other possibility—that due to the divide and vitriol we see today, a COS will be more difficult to call than presented. Even if it’s successful, considering the same divide, why would blue states even agree without a quid-pro-quo? What would be the reason to show up? The requirement of 3/4 would need to be ratified. The blue state legislatures would only need 14 not to act. It would/could take years. I was just throwing it out there. It is a reality that needs to be discussed for those unfamiliar with this issue. The ERA is an example of the potential time lag. I’ll end by saying, as I have previously, I agree with the concept and necessity.

1 year ago you see the the impact of the citizens across America. They are tired of the government overreach. Convention of States will be the platform to bring the delegate and legislators to correct this issue to restore the power of the federal government by giving it back to the states. Even blue states wants this. Do not look at COS as a bias movement. Article V by the founding fathers seen this coming. Hi Katherine,
It did the same for me. Been an advocate for 2 years now in two different states and the reception has been amazing. I can see the momentum especially with the upcoming Presidential election. Good you, keep on fighting the good fight.

We must NEVER forget that the STATES formed the federal government, NOT the other way around. The powers of the federal government ARE LIMITED by the Constitution and its Amendments. Article V specifically grants to both the Congress and the States (whose continuing consent maintains the EXISTANCE of the federal government) the right to Amend the Constitution.
There is no other language anywhere within it that in any way alters or removes this right from the States, or that grants to the federal government the SOLE right to Amend.

IMO this proposal is not applicable to the COS topic which in no way allows for the rewriting of the Constitution but only for the amending of the current Constitution. The needs to be removed to stand on its own has a propased topic of discussion.
