Term limits for Senators and Representatives

Six years is DEFINITELY too long! 4 at most and two terms. No more lifetime Senators that are too powerful.

Absolutely LOBBYING is the root of corruption and big money in DC. It needs to STOP completely.

Yes

Abolish not only career politicians but also the pensions that these politicians receive upon retirement. This is supposed to be government for the people by the people. Think of the money to be saved by not paying a huge pension to a “retired” former president who is already making millions on book deals.

Complete agree. And Government employees should be required to pay into social security like the rest of the people.

We need term limits. What about making their time in 4 years and then they go home.

Totally agree that term limits are required to root out the SWAMP. Nothing less can really be effective! Go Trump!

100%!

I would like to see Performance Reviews for the Senate and the House (not votes) on the issues they claim to serve the citizens for. Moreover, an ethics attorney be nominated to create ethics training and a report to citizens of abuses by these representatives. The news media is not a good source to determine what is true these days. Is there insider trading happening by government officials?

I think it should be 8 year max two four year terms.

All one has to do is look at Nancy Pelosi, Mitch McConnell, etc. to understand that there MUST be termed limits. You can’t leave it up to the voters apparently as these two continue to be elected even though they can barely stand or talk. They use their positions to enrich themselves, etc. Why does every other elected position have term limits except them? YES, we need to implement term limits! PLEASE…

If the president is limited, the senators and House of Representatives should have a limit where they are only limited to be voted in for two terms. Term should be the same as presidential but voted on after the president has been in office for two years.

Agree, The terms are set by the Constitution of 6 years and 2 years so just change the number of terms. We should also remove any retirement or health care after they serve their limited number of terms. The founding Fathers served and then went back to their farms, business, etc. They should do the same today. Serve for a season then go back and get a real job and earn your retirement there. They should also be limited to a COLA increase in salary while in office, no more voting for your own pay increase.

I agree with everyone. The abuse of power is out of hand. I believe the longer one serves, it gets easier to fall into corruption—and at a minimum—develop ties to lobbyists that are self serving.

tell me one amendment to the constitution that has been BENEFICIAL TO THE PEOPLE.

ensure when out, they are out! No special perks for service like health insurance for life or free . . . whatever…maybe a watch and a plaque and a thank you!

I totally agree

Actually, the bill of rights are the only benefits of our constitution. The rest of it is merely bylaws of a corporation, the “how to” of filing offices and job descriptions. What we hold most dear are the Bill of Rights.

Congress passed the law that limited the term of the President (Executive branch), so it should be the President who makes term limits on the legislative branch.
They won’t vote for it themselves, neither did FDR (he had to die first).

I think 6 year term for Senator is fine but limit them to one or two terms, same for the House
