First you have to look at election fraud.
I think senators and Congress should definitely have a term limit I think it should be four years just like the president I feel like thatâs only fair
How about staggered 4-year terms with 1/2 of the Senate up for re-election every 2 years?
That way we keep midterms (since everything Federal and Local is set up for elections every 2 years), but still shorten term length.
No pay until a 10% reduced budget is approved.
Senators and congress must have a minimum of 5 years experience working in a for profit private sector job or business owner. Lawyers, Accountants, Judges, and Lobbyists are automatically disqualified.
Not only for the senate but the house and All elected officials as well as bureaucrats.
Yes, this. Can we please cap a maximum for Age
I agree. The original 13th amendment called for that. During Abe Lincoln, the amendment magically disappeared and replaced. Lincoln was a lawyer.
Agree. Starting with the CPUC in California.
Lovely. For goodness sake, please find out what a LAME DUCK IS. Otherwise you are calling for chaos in congress.
Youâre right, it could cause chaos.
Iâm not saying what I proposed was a perfect solution. âLame-duckingâ up to half of the Senate every 2 years isnât good at all. Statistically, it wouldnât happen unless you also had a lot of congressmen hit their term limits that same election cycle. (Or people just elected bad congressmen.) (The current process for the House potentially can turn all 435 members into lame ducks. Statistically, it doesnât happen.)
I was just floating a response regarding 3-year terms, which doesnât work. 4 is better than 3, but you have to find a balance between term length, term limits, and the midterm election cycle.
The simplest solution is to keep everything how it is and just impose term limits.
I like the chance of electing other senators and representatives during the interim of a sitting president. It is a good check-and-balance for the American people to direct their will if a sitting President is not going in the direction they prefer. So a 6-year term is still good but with a two-term max. Instead of age limits (look at Benjamin Franklin!), I think public cognitive tests should be required before anyone runs for any office. Benjamin Franklin was 70 years old when our Declaration of Independence was signed and he was a voice of peace and wisdom during the many debates over the creation of our country. We need our eldersâ wisdom and voice in government.
Yes, we really need to have term limits. The problem is, sitting Senators and House of Representatives are not likely to vote in favor for this. We need an honest constitutional scholar to be in President Trumpâs cabinet or as a close advisor to guide us through the process and the options. Perhaps a natational referendum can be put on our ballot after the specifics of the proposal are worked out.
As an aside, I think that the proposal needs to include mandatory, random drug and alcohol testing as well as random mental fitness testing for all persons serving in the Federal goverment.
Representatives terms should increase to 4 years, thereby eliminating the CONSTANT CAMPAIGNING!!! Senators should remain at 6 year terms- each office limited to TWO CONSECUTIVE TERMS. There are many good people in office who have dedicated so much of their lives for public service, and we thank them for thatâŚBUT it is a matter of our political leaders being cut off from their constituents when they are isolated in Washington, DC -far removed from American life and OUR VALUES! Government must remain OF THE PEOPLE!
Until we stop all the lobbying, all the monetary incentives, we donât dare fall for term limits.
JUST ONE lame duck can do a lot of damageâthink what a whole group of lame ducks can do?
No one on here seems to know anything about lame ducks and the upheaval caused by them.
Besides that, if you had a good constitutional legislator, like Ron Paul or Thomas Massieâwould you want to be deprived of your right to vote FOR them?
Then by all means follow what they wroteâthe foundersâevery time we have an amendment we screw up!
What happened to âSeparation of Church and State?â You canât force Christians on the country, R. Zak.
Yes! And stop the ridiculous and blatant riches from insider trading.
100%, that has been one of the biggest problems plaguing govât currently, these âspecial interest groupsâ aka rich communists come in and get used to paying off a particular person - oh sorry, âlobbyingâ a particular person and that person gets used to rolling over for that person for cash and prizes LOL True story And so with term limits they will have to WORK to âlobbyâ new people and new people who hopefully have some sense of right and wrong and arenât completely enured to corruption.
Term limits is vital to stop corruption. However it is only the first step. Other steps needed are severely limit or even get rid of lobbying. Stop the revolving door between big business and big government. If you work for a government agency you cannot go to work for the business you regulated and vice versa. For every new law written we should take one or more old law off the books. Get rid of the federal reserve. No money can be given to any foreign country for any reason without a national vote of the people to approve it. No dual citizenship allowed in congress, house reps. etc.
Lobbying needs to be banned. Every amendment to the constitution ends up a nightmare FOR THE PEOPLE.
