Term limits for Senators and Representatives

I think there is room to experiment with sortition, for sure. Some people are uncomfortable with the idea of introducing randomness to public decisions, but there are statistical and practical reasons to expect it to be representative - if not more representative than the status quo.

One idea I would like to see some experimentation with is the concept of Election by Jury. A drawback with sorting a proper legislative body directly from among the public is the level of commitment required. There will be a bias for more politically invested people, and activists who get selected to stay, while the average person will tend to decline. If instead, the commitment is relatively short (several days to a week) that’s something the average person won’t mind participating in.

In fact, I have a contribution here, which extends sortition to the Electoral College. To be clear, I don’t think sortition is the answer to everything. It is just one of many available tools to implement a republic.
