Further, said limits MUST apply to Civil Service Employees who have already taken over the Federal Government in Washington D.C. Govt. Employees are given too many benefits and forget their responsibility to the people as much as our elected officials. The SWAMP MUST BE DRAINED!
Iâm not against term limits but I also donât think it will have the effect people hope it will have. Members of congress donât really know anything and are just a mouth piece for lobbyists and even by term limiting members, the next person in office is likely to continue the same policies. Power is addictive and reelection isnât the only way to get it.
A solution I believe would work better is to tie a persons ability to run for reelection to a balanced budget amendment. Without going into detail, which would be a different thread, Congress has to pass a budget each year, any tax increase automatically expires after a year, this way each member is on record if they vote to increase taxes. Anybody that votes to increase taxes (isnât good enough at their job) and is prohibited from being reelected.
By doing this, we get to keep anyone who happens to be good while striping the power (money) from anyone trying to abuse the position.
This wonât fix the issue. They will buy off the next one probably with less money. You have to remove the influence of lobbyists somehow.
Two terms across the board for all federal representatives, house / senate. Amend the 22nd amendment to include. Itâs already there.
2 term max (in years) for house, senate, wh staffers, not to exceed 4, 12 and 8 years in each office regardless of who they work for.
Only allow one term for Senatorâs and 3 terms for representatives
Not only should their terms be limited, they should receive the same pay as the military. House could receive Lt and CPT pay. Senate could receive Maj pay. When their term is up as you described they get the same thing that a military retiree of 12 years gets â absolutely nothing. If they want a retirement, they have to serve the 20 years by serving the house, then senate, then cabinet (LTC Pay), VP (Col pay), or POTUS (Gen pay). Same health care, too.
I would add a couple of things. Include the presidency in the mix and have a limit for Federal Office of maybe 14 years. Politician was never meant to be a career.
The Executive Branch doesnât have the authority to place congressional term limits. Congress would have to vote that upon themselves but theyâre so drunk on money and power that it will never happen.
Not a traditional term limit concept.
Make it something like they get 20 years max career as senator AND Rep total.
The term limit also includes they canât do more than specified CONSECUTIVE terms then they have to break for a couple election cycles then they can run again.
Example: A rep can do 3 consecutive terms, but has to take a break for 2 terms before running again.
They can run for Senator but limited to three consecutive terms and could be allowed a fourth term after taking at least 2 term break and since they start their 4th term before their 20 limit (3 terms 18 years in Congress) they can finish it beyond the 20 at their 24 year mark.
A rep could run three terms then jump into senate for 3 terms (24 years total) and they hit their lifetime limit.
Yes, to the term limits of unelected bureaucrats. And getting rid of the Federal Employees Union would be the first hurdle. Like in the military, often times it is easier to remove a sub-standard employee by promoting them out of their current position then to fire them. This only leads to promoting them into a position of an incompetent leader.
Yes, to the Convention of States idea. There currently is a movement for that and as last I checked had 19 of the 34 states onboard. Getting this endorsed by the current candidates would, I believe, do a lot to move it along. Most of the things being brought up on the site could be incorporated in this new Convention of States as amendment to the current Constitution.
Yes - we need to do this for all levels of government at the national level and all the way down to the small town. It is 2024âŚ
Agreed. I would absolutely support annual cognitive testing. It would have to be the same test for all administered by the same person or group. Too often they get doctors who say what the want or hide the results.
Power corrupts, and the longer theyâre in (especially with the necessity of âdialing for dollarsâ half the day), they will be corrupted to some extent.
Those running for congress should be US Citizens by birth, Christians,
No dual citizenship.
Term limits of potentially Two, three year terms.
Minimal salary, PT, no overtime, no benefits, no holiday, no retirement.
They shall be Immediately removed and prosecuted for writing bills or law, that is Unconstitutional, breaking their oath of office.
Let those who truly love this nation, keep it small and safeguard liberty and freedom.
Yes, 18yrs for Senators and 12 for Representatives
Not only term limits, but all terms should be part time and no longer accrue a pension and other benefits.
No term limits. Facilitate recall at will directly from the people. Since Congress effects the entire country and every citizen, citizens from any state ought to be able to fire any member of Congress. A warning then a firing. They should be subject to job performance the same as all workers.
I have yet to see any type of term limits that could not be exploited just as badly as having no term limits. There is a lack of smart willing people willing to give up 4 - 8 years for this country.
along with this, retirements need adjusting according to yrs served. When term limits are enforced we cannot afford to pay full retirement to hundreds
