Seniors should not have to pay taxes on Social Security. We are barely getting by as it is and to be taxed is so wrong. We have paid our dues.
The property taxes in each state need to stopped for those that are seniors and have no kids in schools! We’ve paid them all our life. I can’t afford $12000 a year on my home. It’s insane in Texas! Please help us.
I agree with you! As a veteran and senior, I don’t own a home. About 10 years ago, my wife passed with cancer. I had to sell my house which I still owed on. I have been renting ever since. No senior should have to pay taxes on social security and no senior veteran should have to pay taxes on any pension!
Agreed. Here as well. My property taxes went up over $1,000 this year, along with insurance. Over 5 years, property taxes went up over $5,000 a year. Not getting any better service. Just school district’s administrators giving themselves raises per year, and I do not have kids as well. It’s ridiculous.
I totally agree. The threshold level that was originally implemented is ridiculously low. It was meant to tax the upper class to upper middle class but ends up, because it was not adjusted for inflation, taxing even the poorest through most of the middle class. It either needs to completely be overturned or, at the very least, have the the threshold levels significantly increased.
Federal taxes are illegal so therefore if that is addressed, removing federal taxation, this would no longer be an isseue for anyone getting SS or any other retirement income. Persons that are not working should not pay taxes of any kind.
Property taxes are involved, supposedly, in paying for schools which even if you don’t have kids you should want and educated people in your community but with that said the schools should be run by local communities and don’t need to cost nearly has much as they claim they do, especially for the poor results they get.
What if there was an opt in or out option for taxes? Citizens given a minimum tax rate paid yearly but they get to individually and annually decide where they want to send their tax dollars. For example, you dont have kids so maybe you send a small percent to assist the school because kids still matter but then you send a bit more to fix roads and infrastructure in your state. If you dont pay into say the social security tax, you dont qualify for it when you retire. Or if you dont pay into the assistance program you wont qualify for it, because you didnt contribute any to it. Pay taxes into systems that matter to you and impact you individually.
Im sure there is a much better way to word all that and a better way to make something like that useful and sustainable. I personally have no interest of ever again paying into a welfare system, it is one of the worst systems ever created. Cash assistance being the absolute worst program. So much wasteful spending on the welfare programs witn rampant fraud and abuse within the system. Life long freebies for people who dont even qualify. No real regulation of benefits. Unhealthy households incentized to be single family households. Although a lot of single family households LIE to get the assistance. It is the biggest scam on the working class people by farm
Fully agree! My grandparents have paid their fair share. They own their home and shouldn’t continue to be taxed on their property or the money they were already taxed on!
