No Taxes for Seniors

Proposal for Tax Relief for Senior Citizens on Fixed or Low-Income Budgets

It is imperative that we consider the financial well-being of senior citizens, particularly those living on fixed or low-income budgets. Throughout their lives, these individuals have contributed significantly to society, dedicating their time and effort to the workforce while consistently fulfilling their tax obligations. As they transition into retirement, it is essential that we recognize their contributions and provide them with the financial relief they deserve.

One critical area in which we can support our senior population is through the elimination of certain tax burdens, specifically property taxes. Many seniors find themselves in a precarious financial situation where their income does not adequately cover living expenses, let alone additional costs associated with property taxation. By alleviating this burden, we would not only enhance their quality of life but also allow them to remain in their homes without the fear of financial instability.

Furthermore, it is vital to address the taxation of Social Security benefits. Social Security serves as a crucial source of income for many seniors, providing them with the necessary funds to meet their basic needs. Taxing these benefits undermines their purpose and places an additional strain on those who are already navigating the challenges of fixed income. Therefore, the proposal to exempt Social Security from taxation is not merely a matter of financial relief; it is a recognition of the importance of this safety net for our aging population.

In conclusion, it is our moral and ethical obligation to support senior citizens by considering the elimination of certain taxes that disproportionately affect them. By doing so, we can ensure that these individuals, who have dedicated their lives to contributing to our society, can enjoy their retirement years with dignity and security. Implementing policies to exempt seniors from property taxes and the taxation of Social Security benefits will be a significant step towards honoring their lifetime of service and commitment.

There are many senior citizens that do not qualify for Social Security but do have pensions from civil service jobs. We paid taxes on our income as we earned it for many years that includes taxes on our contributions to our pensions. We retire and our retirement is taxed again each month. Add to that we pay all the same taxes on property, food, gas etc. Why should we be taxed three or more times on our income? Please take a closer look.

if property taxes are replaced by the one sales tax, think that is what’s it’s called, Seniors should be exempt from that. Seniors on fixed income are going hungry, paying high costs for prescriptions, high food bills, etc., etc. Also Cola should be based on current inflation rate. Cola for years has not kept up and seniors are getting poorer and poorer with many now homeless!
