Background: I’m a southern baptist pastor in the PNW. My congregation is about 700 people with 3 full time staffed pastors.
I’m suggesting a tax on non profit 501c3’s of which my church is one.
I’ve personally known churches and other charitable organizations that have either laundered money, or used their non profit to funnel illegal personal gains all of which go untaxed.
I see our national debt, and it is overwhelming to consider the possibility of ever making headway.
I believe that if the government begins PROPORTIONATELY taxing these organization it’s going to expose massive amount of fraud in religious and non profit circles.
I say proportionately because my church brings in just over 1.5Mil and our expenses (which includes our school) are 1.5Mil. These expenses include various outreaches and ministries to the community as well as salary, none of these excluding 60k per individual on staff. This creates a dual blessing of exposing false religious organizations, and gives accountability to ministers who have been gaining massive amounts of money in the name of their God.
I’m personally excited about that. This will create a starker contrast bewtween healthy organizations and corrupt organizations.
If the government taxes organizations that bring in massive amount more than they spend or reach a certain income threshold, much like individual taxes are, then I believe through religious organizations, we can make real headway on our national debt and make our dollar more valuable for generations.
The one suggestion is that the president appoints a religious representative to the house and senate, whose sole job is determine how ALL income from the 501c3’s and religious organizations is spent. We don’t want our taxes funding wars, abortions, trans surgeries. We want it helping the poor and fixing this country, educating our kids.
No 501c3 income will be spend without representation
